03/05/2023 – The Civil Police launched Operation Nassau, with the support of several Military Police units. The action targeted the Nova Holanda community and resulted in three arrests. The targets of the operation were individuals with direct links to organized crime and active in drug trafficking. Operation Nassau is part of the Civil Police’s strategy to repress drug trafficking in communities with high homicide rates.

05/05/2023 – The Military Police (PM) arrested two men accused of robbing passers-by on RJ-106, Amaral Peixoto Highway. The action took place after complaints from victims who triggered the PM’s vehicle. According to the occurrence, officers carried out searches and saw two men on a motorcycle and carried out the approach. With them, three cell phones, two purses, a kindle, an iPhone, a firearm simulacrum, and a thermos were found.
06/05/2023 – Two men were arrested in the Bela Vista neighborhood for their involvement in the kidnapping and torture of two boys. According to the Military Police, the victims were tied up at a construction site when the police arrived in the neighborhood to verify a complaint. Still according to the police, they would be killed by the “drug traffickers’ court”.
16/05/2023 – The Military Police arrested a man with an adulterated motorcycle on Rua Nova Aurora, in downtown Macaé. A Military Police team was on patrol near the Linha community when they spotted a man riding a red motorcycle without a license plate. Upon realizing the approach of the car, the criminal fled, triggering a police pursuit. The motorcyclist ended up colliding on a corner, where he was arrested.
16/05/2023 – A 34-year-old man who was the head of drug trafficking in the Linha community, in the Cajueiros neighborhood, was arrested by the Civil Police. According to the Civil Police, he was also wanted for murder and triple-qualified attempted murder. He has an extensive criminal history related to homicides, mainly linked to the drug war in Macaé.
21/05/2023 – Two women and a man were arrested by the Civil Police for involvement in a scam scheme that used fake PIX to buy cell phones. The value of the fake PIX was R$ 5,500. According to the police, the case was initiated when a merchant, owner of a cell phone store in a mall, informed the police that payment for a sale was made through a fake PIX.
22/05/2023 – Two men were arrested for drug trafficking by the Military Police during an operation in the Lagomar neighborhood. The police had information about a location where there would be drugs. They surrounded the area and managed to arrest the criminals. During the approach, crack stones, cocaine and marijuana were found.
25/05/2023 – The police arrested the leader of drug trafficking in the Bosque Azul community was arrested during Operation Coyote. In addition to the arrest, the police seized a large amount of marijuana and cocaine. Then, the police went to the Nova Esperança and Nova Holanda communities, also dominated by the same faction, where marijuana and ammunition of various calibers were seized.

- After dark, avoid Glória and the Centro (Downtown).
- After dark, avoid walking alone in Praia Campista and Cavaleiros.
- Avoid Lagomar, Barra de Macaé, Engenho da Praia, Planalto da Ajuda, Ajuda de Cima, Ajuda de Baixo, Morro de Santana and Morro de São Jorge (in Paraíso), Fronteira, Jardim Maringá, Barra, Nova Holanda, Malvinas, Botafogo, Aroeira, Parque Aeroporto and the surroundings of Favela da Linha (in between Visconde de Araújo and Cajueiros), as risks of collateral damage and assault are high in these areas.
- As much as possible, restrict movement in the districts of Novo Horizonte (in Vale Encantado) and Parque Aeroporto. Do not walk alone in these areas and use only licensed taxis.
- Be careful when walking downtown, avoid exposing valuables.
- Be always cautious, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand.
