The number of deaths in confrontation with the police almost doubled, in June, in the areas of the first battalions that implemented the use of cameras in the officers’ uniforms. The equipment is pointed out as one of the instruments to reduce police lethality in the state. Experts say that cameras alone do not solve the problem of police violence. It was also highlighted that Civil Police special units, known for acting more directly in confrontations, do not use cameras and there is still no forecast for implementation.

30/07/2022 –A man armed with a knife wounded three in Sampaio neighborhood, North Zone of Rio. Military police officers from the Méier Presente program were informed that a man was stabbing people with a knife in the street, and they managed to detain the suspect. Firefighters were called to help the victims.
Our analysis:
The best way to stay safe in a knife attack is to prevent it from happening. If you know that someone has a knife or a person shows a blade to threaten you, you should look for ways to leave the place as quickly as possible. When someone pulls a knife, your priority is to put as much space between you and them as possible. Do not turn your back to run as you will be exposed and will have no way of knowing if the attacker can run faster than you. Slowly start walking backwards and start putting some space between you and the criminal. If it is a public place and there are more people around, ask for help to make the situation obvious.
30/07/2022 – Civil police officers arrested seven men in the act of stealing a light transformer valued at around R$20,000 on Salvador Allende Avenue, Barra da Tijuca, West Zone. At the time, the authors wore counterfeit uniforms and equipment from Light, the city’s power provider. Among the tools used were cones and a truck.
30/07/2022 – Civil Police delegate deputy of the Vicente de Carvalho police station, had his car, gun and wallet stolen on the corner of Frei Henrique Street and Dom Helder Câmara Avenue, in Piedade, North Zone. He was with his wife buying a meal at a diner when the couple was approached by three criminals with pistols.
30/07/2022 – Civil Police is looking for the man who shot and killed a 19-year-old at a party in Santa Cruz, West Zone. The suspect is a civilian firefighter. The young man was shot in the head while trying to break up a fight.
30/07/2022 – Model Bruno Krupp was arrested on charges of running over and killing a 16-year-old student. The accused, who does not have a driver’s license, was driving a motorcycle at high speed without a license plate on Lúcio Costa Avenue in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone.
31/07/2022 – Passengers were robbed inside a train on the Santa Cruz line, near Praça da Bandeira, North Zone. According to the victims, the thieves even stole the sneakers that people were wearing.
31/07/2022 – A shootout between rival criminal groups scared Campinho residents, North Zone. Gunshots could be heard in neighboring neighborhoods. Policing was reinforced in the region, according to the Military Police. There are no reports of injuries.
31/07/2022 – A woman suffered an attempted murder in downtown Rio. She was attacked by her ex-husband with punches and metal tools. According to friends and relatives of the victim, he did not accept the end of the relationship. After the attack, the victim was rescued, she had a piece of her ear mutilated.
02/08/2022 – The Military Police carried out an operation in the Jacarezinho community. Officers from the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), the Dog Action Battalion (BAC) and the Shock Battalion (BPChq) were in the region. Officers were looking for weapons, drugs and criminals operating in the area. Policing was reinforced at the main access points in the community.
02/08/2022 – A 17-year-old makeup artist, Rocinha resident, South Zone, had her house invaded and her body burned by a man. In addition, according to information from the victim’s acquaintances, the man raped her.
02/08/2022 – A man was arrested for attempted murder. According to the police, he is accused of assaulting and keeping the woman in private prison. The crime took place in Marechal Hermes, in the North Zone. According to police, the victim managed to scream for help and was rescued by neighbors.
03/08/2022 – Five people were arrested in another phase of Operation Resina, against members of a criminal organization specializing in theft of truck loads. According to the police, the gang planned to steal tracks from the Rio subway and divert to the São Paulo subway. Among those arrested is former police officer Edson dos Santos Filho, father of former municipal secretary of Science and Technology of Rio and councilor Willian Coelho. Edson had a search and seizure warrant but ended up being arrested for having an unregistered weapon. William was also the target of searches.
03/08/2022 – Criminals blew up a bank branch in Vila Isabel, North Zone. The military police arrived during the action of the criminals and there was a shooting. Federal Police were called and launched an investigation to identify the criminals.

Currently, we try to solve everything via the internet, but sometimes we have to go in person to bank agencies. They tend to attract the attention of criminals due the large amounts of money store inside ATMs. If your bank branch is robbed, it is important to know how to act:
- Do not react. Keep calm, as difficult as it may be. Some deaths occurred in these cases, because the victim made sudden gestures that were translated by the criminal as a reaction against him. Remember that the robber is after the money and usually only shoots when scared or harassed
- Stay still. If the robbers order you to lie on the floor, do so
- Avoid going to the bank during peak hours. Robberies usually take place between 10h and noon. The robber is looking for movement, as he interprets it as more money at the branch
- Choose bank branches that have adopted revolving doors and cam recorders, these mechanisms reduce the probability of these branches being the target of the action of robbers
03/08/2022 – A man was stabbed to death in Guadalupe. According to the Military Police, the murder would have occurred after an argument within the community in Complexo do Chapadão. According to witnesses, the victim, an elderly man, was stabbed in a robbery.
03/08/2022 – Music writer known as Fernando Magarça was shot dead on Avenida Dom João VI, Santa Cruz neighborhood, West Zone. One of the police’s hypotheses is that he was involved in a traffic fight.
04/08/2022 – Former city councilor Jerônimo Guimarães Filho, known as Jerominho, died after being shot on Rodovia Guandu do Sapé, in Campo Grande, West Zone. The information was confirmed by the family’s lawyer and the Military Police. Jerominho is named as one of the founders and leaders of a militia that operates in Rio de Janeiro’s West Zone.
04/08/2022 – A 61-year-old doctor died during an attempted robbery in Taquara, West Zone. The victim was in a car with his wife and two grandchildren when he had the vehicle closed by another car, where the criminals were. According to investigations, four armed men announced the robbery. According to witnesses, the doctor was armed but did not shoot. However, the criminals shot him nine times, and fled without taking anything.
