01/07/2024 – A man was arrested in Vila Nova on Monday (1) for theft. The suspect stole a woman’s phone and fled on a bicycle; the woman shouted for help. A group of agents were training in the area and chased the suspect before they caught him and returned the phone to the victim.

01/07/2024 – The man who participated in a mega-robbery in Santos on the fourth of April 2016 and succeeded in robbing more than R$ 12 million is sentenced to 172 years in prison after a DNA test. The piece of evidence that led to his conviction was his DNA which was found on a cap found in the car used by the criminals during their escape. The same DNA linked the defendant to another mega-robbery, this one in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay.
02/07/2024 – 882 kilograms of cocaine were seized at the Port of Santos on Tuesday (2). The drugs were hidden in a container loaded with sugar which was supposed to travel to Guinea before reaching the Port of Antwerp, in Belgium. The drugs were intercepted during routine customs surveillance and repression work carried out by Santos Customs teams.
02/07/2024 – This Tuesday (2) in Grajaú, the military police arrested a man as he was carrying 400 kilos of marihuana. According to the police, the shipment was to be taken to the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The suspect had been hired to take the narcotics to a bus terminal in the south of São Paulo. From there, the drugs would be sent to Santos.
04/07/2024 – The Federal Revenue Service found 380 kilograms of cocaine in the Port of Santos on Thursday (4). The drugs were hidden inside a container and according to information the container was supposed to be exported to Sweden, with a stop in Antwerp. The seizure was the second largest of the year.
09/07/2024 – Two men were arrested after they kidnapped a couple that owns a local business, on Tuesday (9), in Embaré. The suspects arrived at the victims’ store and stole R$5,000 before they fled in the victim’s car. A police team had received reports of the crime and established a blockade, as a result, the suspects started shooting at the officers, who retaliated. The man who escorted the suspects escaped.
10/07/2024 – On Wednesday (10) a man was arrested for the attempted murder of a motorcyclist which took place on 17 June in Vila Belmiro. The arrest was a result of an extensive investigation, when agents found the suspect’s address, they found the weapon which was used in the attack.
10/07/2024 – The Municipal Civil Guard of Santos carried out an operation inside the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) tunnel on Wednesday night (10). The operation aimed to combat crime and curb drug use in the tunnel. During the approach, a fugitive with an outstanding arrest warrant was found and detained.
12/07/2024 – A former Military Police officer was arrested for illegal possession of a restricted firearm in Morro Nova Cintra on Friday (12). The suspect was caught after he was involved in a traffic accident, and the passenger of the vehicle was also arrested. Along with the .556 caliber rifle hidden under the rear retractable seat, the police also found 61 rounds of ammunition.
14/07/2024 – A woman attempted to rob a building in Pompéia on Sunday (14). Images from surveillance cameras show that she tried to break the gate of the condominium’s garage. Surveillance video also shows the woman attempted to enter the building on Thursday (11), by utilizing the intercoms.
15/07/2024 – The Civil Police seized two rifles, ammunition, and drugs valued at R$ 1.5 million in a warehouse on the road towards São Sebastião, in the Northwest Zone of Santos on Monday (15). The seizure was a result of an investigation that had been ongoing for 40 days. According to the Santos police chief, the material belongs to a criminal faction that dominates the region.
17/07/2024 – A man suspected of domestic violence was arrested in his residence in Aparecida on Wednesday (17). When police carried out the action the suspect acted violently and advanced towards the officers. When the officers searched his house, they found 148 grams of cocaine and 199 grams of marijuana.
21/07/2024 – A man was caught on security cameras when he broke into a store in Pompéia on Sunday (21). The man stole two cell phones and R$560 in cash from the store and broke in by breaking down the door and crawling through a crack in the fence. He is additionally suspected of having broken into multiple stores in Santos. The suspect escaped.
23/07/2024 – Military Police carried Operation Segura in José Menino Hill on Tuesday (23), which resulted in the death of one man and the arrest of three others. The police seized 35 portions of marijuana, 778 cocaine pellets, 332 crack rocks, four bricks of marijuana, and four small bags of bulk cocaine from the suspects. In addition, a 9mm pistol, 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, four radios, two cell phones, and two precision scales were confiscated.
24/07/2024 – An elderly man was stabbed in the face and had his eye gouged out by his grandson in Aparecida on Wednesday (24). The attacker cut and pierced other parts of the victim’s body, however when police arrived at the scene, he was still conscious and told the officers that his grandson was the attacker. The attacker, who is a teenager, was hospitalized for evaluation by a psychiatrist.
24/07/2024 – A transgender teenager was forcibly prevented from using the women’s bathroom at Emissáro Submarino, in the José Menino neighborhood, on Wednesday (24). According to a witness, the street vendor grabbed the victim by the arm and prevented her from using the bathroom with the justification that children use the bathroom unaccompanied and would be ‘exposed’. The case was not reported to the police.
30/07/2024 – Two men were caught while they attempted to steal electrical wires from a distribution box in the Outeirinhos neighborhood, at the Port of Santos on Wednesday (31). The Port Authority (APS) reported that the men were trying to remove electrical wires from a system that was undergoing maintenance. The information was verified through surveillance cameras. The Federal Police added that the suspects damaged the structure that protected the wiring.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
