The police are investigating a new scam involving oil changes at gas stations. A driver uncovered the scheme aimed at deceiving customers in Campo Grande, in the West Zone. Attendants allegedly simulate problems in customers’ cars and then swap out product containers for empty ones after the sale.

According to gas station customers, those who refuel their CNG (compressed natural gas) from the front of the vehicle are more vulnerable to this scam.
Modus Operandi
The scheme operates as follows: the attendants spray water on the car’s engine to create steam; they then claim there are issues with the vehicle and offer an overpriced additive—up to three times the regular price—along with unnecessary rubber replacement and labor costs. The attendants pretend to apply the product, and then instruct the driver to start the car. At this moment, they discreetly swapped the full containers for empty ones, leading the driver to believe the oil had been changed and the problem resolved.
Exposed on Social Media
This criminal setup was captured on video and the attendants were exposed on social media. After the video went viral, officers from the 35th Police Precinct (Campo Grande) went to the location, seized containers, and took the two attendants caught in the act to the police station. They have been identified and charged with fraud. The police are currently working to identify additional victims of the scheme.
