01/08/2023 – A military police officer was shot during the morning of Tuesday (01/08) in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, according to the Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP). According to the PM, the police officer was shot during a shootout in Morro São Bento neighborhood. He was chasing an armed criminal who had attacked his colleague earlier. The soldier from the Police Special Actions Battalion (Baep) was injured in the groin. He was taken to the hospital.

10/08/2022 – A shooting between military police (PMs) and criminals took place in Morro do José Menino. The shooting took place during Operation Shield between the Military Police and four criminals. The police were on an incursion through the hill and came across a group of armed criminals, who fled through the forest region.
15/08/2022 – A 40-year-old Federal Police delegate was shot in the head while executing a search and seizure warrant in Guarujá. During the execution of a search and seizure warrant there was a chase on Avenida Tancredo Neves. Criminals fled towards a house and shot at the federal police. Two criminals were arrested with a submachine gun, a pistol, money, and drugs.
18/08/2023 – A 16-year-old student had his neck squeezed by a military police officer in the courtyard of the Dona Luiza Macuco state school, in Ponta da Praia. The images were recorded by students of the unit. A family member of the young man said that the confusion started when the policeman would have looked at the victim girlfriend’s buttocks and the victim would have called the officer a ‘pedophile’. The Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP) reported that it is investigating the case.
19/08/2022 – The body of a 66-year-old man was found at a bus stop on Avenida Martins Fontes, in front of the Philosophy Cemetery, in the Saboó neighborhood. According to the Civil Police, a team was triggered to attend to the occurrence and upon arriving at the address found the elderly man lifeless.
21/08/2022 – A 20-year-old man was shot and killed during a shooting with officers from the Special Actions Battalion (Baep) in Morro Santa Maria. According to the Military Police (PM), the shooting took place on Rua Sete. The PM and the State Secretary for Public Security (SSP-SP) did not say under what circumstances the man was shot.
23/08/2023 – Federal Police, in a joint action with the Federal Revenue, seized 247 kilos of cocaine that were hidden in the hull of a ship in the Port of Santos. According to the Federal Police, the ship was undergoing an inspection, when suspicious volumes were located in the compartment called ‘sea chest’, in the ship’s hull. The ship was bound for Morocco.
25/08/2022 – A 30-year-old man was arrested after robbing a post office and breaking into a house in the Boqueirão neighborhood. He was found with foreign currency and armed with a kitchen knife. According to the incident report, the military police (PMs) were carrying out a routine patrol when they were called to respond to the incident. Security officers went to the scene and according to them, the author was hiding behind a car parked in the garage. The boy was approached and with him money in reais and foreign currencies were found.
26/08/2022 – A thief took advantage of a failure in the alarm system to break into and rob a bakery located on Rua Bahia, in Gonzaga. According to the owner, the criminal stole three tablets, three communicator radios, money that was in the store’s cashier, a speaker, and a cap with the bakery’s logo. The criminal broke down the door to enter the store.
30/08/2023 – A 43-year-old man was shot by military police on Rua Pedro Borges Gonçalves, in Morro do José Menino. According to the Military Police (PM), officers were carrying out Operation Shield when some people fled when they saw the vehicle. The PMs went after these criminals in an alley. When a man appeared armed, and the police fired.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
