On Monday (24/06), after strong pressure from the government, José Mauro Coelho resigned as president of Petrobras. He also resigned from the presidency of the state-owned company’s Board of Directors. Caio Paes de Andrade, trusted name of Economy Minister Paulo Guedes and the current man supported by President Jair Bolsonaro, should take charge of Petrobras. However, this will only happen after analysis of documentation by the company’s internal committee.
Proposal to Control Fuel Prices
By promoting this change, the Government believes that, once in charge of Petrobras, Caio Paes de Andrade will change the board of the state-owned company and guarantee a break between fuel adjustments, avoiding new increases until the first round of the election.

Resistance in the Senate
On Tuesday (21/06), Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco said that a possible change in the State-owned Companies Law is not a solution “in the face of a casuistic, circumstantial problem due to a war”, referring to the increase in fuel prices stimulated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
