On Thursday morning (25/08), residents of Complexo do Chapadão, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, made blockades on the main streets in the surroundings for protesting the death of a 22-year-old, which occurred during a police operation, on the night of 24 August.
Burning Barricades
The barricades, made by setting fire to tires and other materials, came to completely block some roads. The Military Police (PMERJ) cleared the roads and intensified policing around the Chapadão Complex.
The Case
According to witnesses, the victim would be Lucas Martins, who worked as a delivery man and had no involvement with crimes. The Military Police informed that officers from the 41st Military Police Battalion were patrolling when they would have encountered a group of armed men, which would have led to a shootout.
In the incident, a 9mm pistol, a radio communicator, 995 bags of cocaine, 642 bundles of marijuana, 103 crack stones and ammunition were collected.
