One of these warrants was carried out at Jordy’s house, in Niteroi, Metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, and at his office in the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasília. Through his social networks, the parliamentarian allied with Jair Bolsonaro said that the court order was an “authoritarian measure”.
Carlos Jordy is the leader of the opposition in the Chamber and a pre-candidate for mayor of Niterói for Jair Bolsonaro’s party, the PL.
Operation Lesa Patria
The operation aims to identify three groups of people who participated in the coup acts on 8 January – the inciters, the financiers, and the executors of the riot that took place in the Three Powers Square that day. Jordy fits into the first group. The Federal Police are investigating him for his alleged participation in roadblocks and camps set up in Rio de Janeiro shortly after the 2022 elections.
Since January 2023, the operation has targeted state deputies, councilors, businesspeople, farmers, military personnel, and digital influencers. All warrants were issued by Federal Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who is responsible for the case about the 8 January attacks at the Court.
Note from the Federal Police
The PF reported that investigations are still ongoing, and Operation Lesa Pátria is permanent, with periodic updates on the number of court orders served and people arrested. Furthermore, the facts investigated constitute, in theory, the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, criminal association, and incitement to crime.
