According to information released by media sources, President Jair Bolsonaro has decided to take part in the September 7th parade in Rio de Janeiro.
He also wants the event, which is normally promoted in the Downtown area, specifically in Av. Presidente Vargas, in the morning, to be moved to Av. Atlântica, Copacabana neighborhood, at 16h.
Mayor Resists
However, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes affirmed on Saturday (06/08) that the Setember 7 parades are scheduled for the city center, and not in the neighborhood of Rio’s South Zone.
Fear of Attacks
According to information disclosed by Veja magazine, intelligence agencies are investigating a plan to attack supporters of the president on September 7th. Informants would have revealed to this media outlet that a right-wing extremist group has the objective of creating a political factoid to change the course of the 2022 election, justifying an eventual coup.
The criminal act would be carried out to hurt the supporters of the President, generate panic in society and then place the blame on the left. The suspicion was confirmed by two officials of these intelligence agencies.
Despite being a plan difficult to organize, it would not be the first time that this has happened in the history of Brazil. The Riocentro attack in 1981 was organized by radical sectors of the of the Army and Military Police of Rio to incriminate leftist groups that opposed the dictatorship.
