On Wednesday (29/06), bus drivers and fare collectors went on strike in São Paulo city. The strike started at dawn and ended after an assembly in which employees decided to return to work. The movement was motivated by a set of demands that were not met after the first strike that took place on June 14th. Despite the employers’ union obtaining a salary readjustment of 12,47%, workers claimed that other demands, such as paid lunch time, profit sharing and career plans, were not met. The Labor Public Ministry classified the strike as illegal because the union did not respect the 72-hour notice period before starting the strike. According to SPTrans, 50% of the city’s bus fleet operated, but a court decision determined 80% at peak hours and 60% off peak hours.
