30/03/2024 – An 18-year-old man was caught in the act of selling drugs in Sapinhatuba I, central region of Angra. According to the Police, a routine patrol noticed the man with a suspect attitude. As the officers approached, they could see he was selling drugs. On him, the officers found 175 capsules of cocaine, 54 stones of crack, 2 walkie-talkies, and a scale.

03/04/2024 – A man was arrested with drugs in Água Santa, East of Angra. A routine patrol noticed a man with a suspect attitude and decided to control him. During the review, the officers found cocaine, crack, and cannabis.
05/04/2024 – A young man was killed in the early morning in Frade, West of Angra. According to the Police, it is not known yet if this crime has any relation with the Red Command (CV), who leads the drug trafficking in this slum.
07/04/2024 – An elderly man violently aggressed his wife in Praia do Bonfim, South Angra. According to witnesses, who also recorded the scene on video, both husband and wife were drunk and arguing on the beachside. At a moment, the man grabbed his wife by the hair and started slapping and kicking her. When a witness wanted to intervene, she aggressively shouted at them not to do anything. She also told the police officer that nothing happened and that the witnesses were lying.
10/04/2024 – A couple was arrested in Frade, West Angra, suspected of drug trafficking and homicide. The man is pointed out to be the leader of the traffic in the district and the author of a murder occurred on 05/04/2024. According to the police, an anonymous call led the officers to the suspects’ house. Cocaine, cannabis, crack, and a cell phone were found.
13/04/2024 – One man shot his wife during an argument in Rua Pedro Teixeira, Village, and was later arrested. After the incident, both went to Emergency Care Service (SPA), in Jacuecanga, to seek treatment for the wife’s injury. However, cops came to check the reason behind the gunshot wound, which is a mandatory procedure. The wife claimed to the police that she had been the victim of an attempted robbery. Still, the officers spoke to her separately, without her partner nearby, and she ended up admitting that her companion shot at her during an argument. The husband was then arrested.
16/04/2024 – A resident of the city center sought out media sources to explain a situation, which she said was very serious, that has been happening around Cruzeiro and on the way up the Ladeira do Convento São Bernardino de Sena, which gives access to Morro do Santo Antônio. According to her, there is a night bar in the area, the area around which is used by drug dealers to sell drugs. The complainant also stated that drug dealers disguise themselves as customers and attract homeless people and addicts, who frighten residents.
23/04/2024 – On Wednesday morning (23/04), a 23-year-old man convicted of robbery was arrested in, the Morro da Glória l neighborhood, in Angra dos Reis (RJ), during a Military Police operation against crime.
25/04/2024 – One man stalked and attacked his girlfriend in the center of Angra dos Reis, on the Costa Verde, on Thursday (25/04). Police officers from the Police Station Specialized in Women’s Assistance, DEAM, arrested the man. The attacker was located by agents on Rua Dr. Coutinho.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered almost every month.
- In the case you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- If your are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts and robberies.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
