02/02/2024 – PF notified and closed two irregular security companies in Angra. The investigation pointed out that the security companies were operating without any authorization and some employees had their qualifications out of date or without the concerned adequation. The managers of these companies can respond in justice if not complying with the PF notification.

02/02/2024 – A bandit was wounded in a shootout with the police in Sapinhatuba II, East of Angra. Indeed, during a routine patrol, the officers were received by shots and responded. After the shootout, they found a downed man and rescued him to the hospital. With him, the police found a pistol and a walkie-talkie.
02/02/2024 – A man was arrested for having raped his godson in Angra. According to the detectives, the investigations pointed out that the suspect was raping his relative for 8 years since the boy was 8. The police also found out that he was filming the abuses. The Court sent a temporary prison warrant for the man and a search and seizure warrant for his residences. He is charged with crimes of vulnerable harassment and production of child pornography.
12/02/2024 – A man was shot in the chest in Parque das Palmeiras, central region of Angra. According to the police, the 35yo victim received 4 bullets in the chest and was evacuated to the hospital. There is no information about his state of health or the motivation for the crime. Nobody has been arrested.
14/02/2024 – A 61yo man was arrested for sexual harassment over an 11yo girl, in Ilha Grande. According to the police, the man went to the victim´s house while her mother was assisting a religious office on the beach. The girl ran to her mother to denounce the crime, and both went to the health post. The man fled but the police arrested him a few meters from the crime scene. He was placed in custody and will respond for vulnerable rape.
17/02/2024 – A detective of the Civil Police of São Paulo was arrested with drugs in a hostel in Ilha Grande. According to the police, the arrest occurred as they received a denouncement from the hostel that the detective was smoking in shared accommodation and disturbing the other guests. While controlling the suspect, the officers found various types of drugs in his bag, and his gun and an important quantity of cash in another bag. The man was taken to the precinct to respond to drug possession and consumption. Also, still according to the police, his weapon was given back to him as it is the property of the Civil Police of São Paulo. According to the Public Security Secretariat, the suspect will be professionally charged.
20/02/2024 – A woman died stabbed by her husband in Frade, West of Angra. According to the police, the victim has been stabbed in the neck and the hand. She died in her bathroom. One of the elements that led the detectives to suspect the husband was the witness of his son who alleged a discussion between the couple. Still according to the witness, the woman had suffered domestic acts of violence for years. The man was taken to the precinct where he will be charged with femicide.
20/02/2024 – Environmental crimes in Monsuaba, East of Angra. The Denouncement Green Hotline received a call about the environmental crimes of irregular construction and deforestation. The officers of the environmental police went to the local to check the information and seek a suspect. A passing-by resident told the officers that people often came to the local but not regularly. The police did not find any suspect.
22/02/2024 – Intelligence Services of the Police arrested in Mambucaba, West of Angra, the #2 in the hierarchy of the traffic of Sapinhatuba 1 &2. Indeed, according to the police, he had an open arrest warrant and was hiding in an apartment in Mambucaba. He was helped by fellow criminals from his gang, the “Terceiro Comando Puro” (TCP). The young bandit, who liked to share pictures of him with heavy weapons, was taken to the precinct, from where he would be transferred to the penitentiary.
24/02/2024 – Two suspects of drug trafficking were wounded during a shootout with the police in Morro do Santo Antônio, central region of Angra. Indeed, according to the Corporation, the officers were on a routine patrol when the bandits started the shootout. After the cease-fire, the officers encountered the suspects wounded and grounded. They were evacuated to the hospital. Other 2 bandits were arrested on the spot and placed in custody as they had drugs, cash, and walkie-talkies in their possession. Those were placed in custody.
25/02/2024 – A young bandit invaded a house and stole a motorcycle in Frade, West of Angra. According to the police, the 23yo criminal broke a window of the house and threatened the family to give him the keys of their motorcycle. He also stole the family´s cell phones and a watch. He fled on the highway and had an accident as he lost control of the vehicle. He was interned at the custodial department of the hospital in a severe health condition.
26/02/2024 – A man was arrested after a brief shootout in Sapinhatuba III, East of Angra. Indeed, according to the police, the man, suspected of drug trafficking, started the shootout with a police patrol and fled towards the Rio-Santos route. He was arrested on the highway with a rifle and a hand grenade.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
