03/01/2023 – Military police (PM) clashed with criminals from the Sapinhatuba II neighborhood. In the shooting, a man was shot, rescued by the PM, and taken to the hospital, with him, a gun was seized. According to information from the PM, the confrontation began after officers were shot at by the criminals.
04/02/2023 – A shooting between Military Police (MP) and criminals ended with drugs seized at Morro da Glória II. Military police officers went to the scene after complaints that there were armed men at the address. According to the Disque Denúncia, officers were shot at. Shots were returned, but the criminals managed to flee. At the end of the shooting, the PM found cocaine, which was abandoned during the escape.
08/01/2023 – A criminal involved in drug trafficking died in a shooting with Military Police (PM) in the Sapinhatuba III neighborhood. PM officers went to the address to make a routine round. Upon arriving at the scene, they were met with gunfire and fought back. After the shooting ended, the criminals fled through streets close to the confrontation. A gun used by the criminal to shoot was collected by the PM at the crime scene.
14/02/2023 – Operation Foco Divisas Program and Federal Highway Police (PRF) teams seized about half a ton of semi-precious stones, suspected of illegal extraction, valued at over R$700,000. Two people transporting the stones were arrested.The vehicle was approached on the BR 101 highway, near the Pontal neighborhood, where it was found that the driver was on a different route and was carrying a radio communicator in the truck.
18/02/2023 – Civil Police are investigating the case of an elderly man, aged 62, found dead in a rented house on Rua Laranjeiras, in the Perequê neighborhood. According to police, the body was inside a sofa, already in a state of decomposition. The corpse was found by the owner of the residence due to the bad smell. Still according to police, the owner reported that the property door was broken into.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
