Angra dos Reis is on the list of the five cities that most register energy theft among the 66 cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro served by Enel. The city is behind only Magé, São Gonçalo, Araruama and Cabo Frio. According to the company, from January to November last year, energy losses in Angra were 24.1%. To measure the challenge faced by Enel Rio in the fight against energy theft, 15% of the distributor’s total customer base is in areas with severe operational restrictions. These risk areas are responsible for more than 20% of the total losses recorded by Enel Rio.

01/01/2025 – An 8-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet during a New Year’s celebration at Praia do Anil, on Wednesday (01/01). He was with his family near the Freemason monument watching the fireworks when he was hit in the leg. According to the PM, the shot may have been fired from some hill in the region, possibly by drug traffickers.
06/01/2025 – A bandit known as “Corola”, was arrested on Monday (06/01), on Rua Hipólito Travassos, in Frade, during an operation triggered by the reserved service of the 33rd BPM. According to the police, he is responsible for the criminal attack that set fire to the cars of the city’s telecommunications company, in October 2024. With him, 457 cocaine pins, a 9mm caliber pistol with ammunition, and a cell phone were seized.
06/01/2025 – Agents of the Intelligence team of the 33rd BPM arrested a fugitive from justice at the city’s anniversary concert, in Praia do Anil, in the early hours of Monday (06/01). The agents were on the trail of the suspect, alias “Mão de Ferro”, who was hiding in Casinhas do Bracuí. According to the Corporation, in addition to hiding in the neighborhood, he belongs to the criminal organization Red Command (CV) and was managing the local drug trafficking.
10/01/2025 – A man was murdered with 14 shots on Gregório Galindo Street, in Morro da Cruz, in the early hours of Friday (10/01). The body was found by people in the region. The perpetrator and the motivation of the homicide are not known.
15/01/2025 – Agents of the 166th DP captured at the entrance to Sapinhatuba 1, on Wednesday (15/01), a fugitive from justice since 2019. He was one of the men identified in the videos of the celebrations released by the Third Pure Command (TCP) on the internet, when the criminal faction took control of drug trafficking in Sapinhatubas 1 and 2, previously controlled by the rival faction Red Command (CV).
17/01/2025 – Anonymous calls informed the police about drug trafficking activity in a location of Monsuaba neighborhood. A Military Police patrol was sent to the place and arrested one individual who was carrying drugs. 90 cocaine pins and 30 bottles containing “cheirinho da loló” were found.
21/01/2025 – Police officers from the Angra police station, the 166th DP located and arrested one scammer. The individual was a fugitive from justice and had six outstanding arrest warrants. He, along with his accomplices, robbed elderly people in the areas of bank branches where ATMs were located. In the actions, which mainly targeted the elderly, he and his partners set up a theatrical scenario to deceive the victims and steal money from their bank accounts.
23/01/2025 – A 22-year-old man was threatened to kill his mother in Angra dos Reis (RJ). The incident took place on Thursday (23), in the Balneário neighborhood. He was later arrested. The 61-year-old victim went to the police station and reported the episodes of violence. The young man was found on the sofa in his mother’s living room. A cal. 32 revolver was apprehended with the suspect.
25/01/2025 – Military Police from the Reserved Service of the 33rd BPM arrested, on Saturday (25/01), the drug trafficker known as Pedro, alias PL – Paulista, who operated in the community of the popular condominium Morada Bracuí. With PL, cocaine, crack, marijuana, ecstasy, and skank were seized.
25/01/2025 – Two men tried to kill a sailor in Ariró, on Saturday (25/01). The victim received at least 15 shots, was rescued, and survived. According to the Police, the reason would be an argument in the bar of one of those involved.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered almost every month.
- In the case you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- If your are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts and robberies.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
