05/07/2024 – On Friday (5), agents of the 33rd BPM were carrying out a routine patrol in Morro da Fortaleza, in the city center, when they spotted three individuals trafficking on public roads. According to the agents, a 27-year-old man had a communication radio used by local traffickers, dominated by the Red Command (CV). Another young man, 19 years old, had 215 bundles of marijuana. In addition, they reported that the third suspect, a minor, would have 280 pins of cocaine, 23 bottles of “cheirinho da loló” (ether), and 58 crack rocks.

06/07/2024 – Agents of the 33rd BPM were patrolling in Água Santa, on Saturday afternoon (6), where drug trafficking is dominated by the Red Command (CV), when they caught a 32-year-old woman selling drugs. According to the agents, she had 68 cocaine pins, 8 crack rocks, 5 strips and 2 marijuana tablets, and 66 reais in cash.
10/07/2024 – On Wednesday morning (10), Military Police seized a large quantity of drugs, a precision scale, and a homemade explosive device, in Morro da Glória 1. During the action, there was an exchange of fire. The criminals fled to the forest area, abandoning all the material. No one was arrested.
10/07/2024 – A man died in the late afternoon of Wednesday (10), after a shootout with agents of the Tactical Action Group (GAT) of the 33rd BPM. The confrontation took place in Morro do Peres, in the central region of the city. According to the police, the GAT was shot at by armed men during a routine patrol in the slum and retaliated. At the scene, a 9mm caliber pistol, a magazine, 10 intact ammunition, 86 cocaine pins, 11 marijuana tablets, 2 skank wrappers, and a communication radio were found.
13/07/2024 – On Saturday afternoon (13), agents of the 33rd BPM carried out a large drug seizure in Morro da Fortaleza, in the city center. 235 cocaine pins, 130 crack rocks, 120 bags, 42 strips and 15 pieces of marijuana, a cell phone, and 160 reais in cash were seized. In the action, the Tactical Actions Group (GAT) also apprehended a minor for an infraction analogous to drug trafficking.
14/07/2024 – Police officers from the Tactical Actions Group (GAT) of the 33rd BPM, on patrol in Sapinhatuba 1, a hill dominated by the Pure Third Command (TCP), arrested a criminal and apprehended a minor for the crime of drug trafficking, on Sunday afternoon (14). With them, 150 cocaine pins, 82 crack rocks, 69 marijuana strips, six bottles of ether, and a communication radio were seized.
17/07/2024 – Police officers from the 166th Precinct arrested on Wednesday (17), a 20-year-old suspect accused of drug trafficking, attempted murder, and illegal possession of weapons, in the “Morro do Peres”. The operation was determined by the chief delegate who had already been acting, along with his team, in the investigation of the suspect of the homicide. According to the police, when the criminals noticed the presence of the agents in the community, they started the confrontation by shooting at the detectives, who retaliated. With him, 100 pins of cocaine, 70 of crack, and 60 marijuana tablets were seized.
20/07/2024 – About 50,000 m² of degraded area in Angra dos Reis were identified on Saturday (20), in Banqueta, after inspection by police officers from the 4th Environmental Policing Unit (UPAm). At the time of the inspection, the military police did not find anyone responsible, nor did they find any signs containing licensing from the competent environmental agencies. The region is within the Buffer Zone of the Cunhambebe State Park, and it is an environmental crime.
22/07/2024 – A 50-year-old man was shot dead on Jasmim Street, in Promorar do Campo Belo, on Monday morning (22). The victim, who was not involved with drug trafficking, would have been the victim of a “sachet war” that took place about a week ago. Minors from Promorar, where trafficking is dominated by the Red Command (CV), went to Belém, dominated by the Pure Third Command (TCP). They threw bags at the young people, filmed, photographed, escaped, and posted the material on Instagram, making fun of the young people from Belém. On the same Instagram, they were warned by TCP members that it would not go unpunished. On Sunday (21), these young people were on Jasmim Street when a black car arrived. The hitchhiker got off armed with a pistol and the young people fled. But a young man, only 15 years old, who had nothing to do with the story, was shot 5 times. The same car would have returned on Monday morning (22), when the 50-year-old victim, a neighbor of one of these young people, was killed on the sidewalk in front of the gate of the house.
26/07/2024 – On Friday (26), the corridors of Angra Shopping were taken over by PRD supporters, who caused the biggest uproar in the Shopping Center. All because the old cinema, which the party had supposedly rented to hold its convention, had no electricity. The candidates and their electoral recruiters then decided to hold the PRD convention in the corridor of Angra Shopping, in Parque das Palmeiras. The PRD’s riot ended in a big mess, and a mall employee was almost assaulted when she tried to put an order in the house and prevent the riot. Employees who requested silence from convention attendees were confronted and intimidated by those who were unable to enter the crowded space of the old cinema. In addition to the problems inside the mall, the disorder extended to the parking lot. Cars were left irregularly on the sidewalks and two tourist buses blocked traffic. The police were called, but when they arrived at the address, the electoral recruiters had already left the place in the chartered buses.
27/07/2024 – Around 6 am on Saturday (27), Civil Police officers from the Specialized Police Station for Assistance to Women of Angra (DEAM) served a temporary arrest warrant issued against a 53-year-old man, in the neighborhood of Itinga. He is accused of rape of a vulnerable person and threatening. According to the DEAM, the 10-year-old victim was found on Friday (26) completely doped, in the company of the accused. The girl said she drank something offered by the man who also proposed to pay R$ 20 in exchange for sex. He would also have done the same thing with two other children in the neighborhood.
27/07/2024 – On Saturday (27), military police subordinated to the Environmental Police Command received a complaint about a kite festival in Linha Verde, in Japuíba. Upon seeing the arrival of the agents, five people ended up fleeing, abandoning some reels containing Chilean line (a mixture used to make the kite lines cut). Since the beginning of 2024, the Linha Verde program has already registered about 12 thousand complaints of environmental crimes in the state, 279 of which are related to the Chilean line.
28/07/2024 – A 24-year-old man was arrested after robbing a 44-year-old doctor. The doctor was drinking in a bar in Praia do Anil, when she started talking to a table close by, which had three men and a woman. She invited the group to join her at her house in Vila Velha. When she woke up on Monday (29) morning, she was alone at home and realized that the gang had taken her cell phone, her jewelry, and R$ 3,000. With images from security cameras, police officers discovered the identity of the gang. With the arrested man, police found the doctor’s phone.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered almost every month.
- In the case you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- If your are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts and robberies.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
