03/03/2024 – Police seized drugs and arrested suspects in 2 different districts of Angra. According to the Corporation, the cases occurred during routine patrols. In the first case, in Cantagalo, East of Angra, the officers noticed a man wearing a ballistic vest with a suspect attitude. They controlled him and found drugs. Yet, the second occurrence was in Glória II, in the central area of Angra. There, the officers arrested a suspect with drugs, a pistol, and a walkie-talkie.

09/03/2024 – A man was shot dead in the Center of Angra. The 35yo victim received 4 shots in broad daylight in the middle of a crowded street. Nobody was arrested and the police are investigating the motivation of the crime.
09/03/2024 – Two suspects were wounded during a shootout with the police in Morro do Carmo, central region of Angra. According to the police, a routine patrol was targeted by drug traffic suspects and replied. After the shootout, the officers found the 2 wounded suspects and seized a revolver, 2 hand grenades, and drugs.
11/03/2024 – A 30yo fugitive was arrested in Bracuí, North of Angra. The man had escaped from prison and was caught upon a denouncement call. During the control, he gave the wrong identity to the officers. He was subjected to an open warrant for drug trafficking and a prison escape venture.
17/03/2024 – Three bandits died in a shootout with the police in Morro da Glória I, central area of Angra. According to the Corporation, a routine patrol was targeted, and the officers replied killing 3. On the spot, the cops found 2 handguns, 1 hand grenade, and drugs.
18/03/2024 – Shootout in Sapinhatuba I, central area of Angra, left one bandit dead. According to the police, a routine patrol in the slum was targeted and replied. After the shootout, the officers controlled the area and found a downed bandit who died in the transport to the hospital. On the site, the cops found a gun with ammunition, 2 walkie-talkies, and drugs.
26/03/2024 – Illegal deforestation was discovered in Ponta do Sapê, the central area of Angra. The Environmental Police went on the spot to check a denouncement call. The officers found around 100m2 of damaged land and, a cut slope, with a possible use of a caterpillar.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
