25/02/2023 – A military police officer died in a shooting with criminals involved in drug trafficking in the Bracuí neighborhood. Another police officer was shot. According to the Civil Police, the military was on patrol when they gave a stop order to a motorcycle, which fled. During the pursuit, the officers were attacked by gunfire.

06/03/2023 – A young man was shot dead on Rua Benedito Soares, in the Japuíba neighborhood. According to the Military Police (PM), the 23-year-old victim was rescued but died. Still according to the PM, the young man was suspected of involvement with drug trafficking in the region.
10/03/2023 – A criminal involved in drug trafficking died during a shooting with the Military Police (PM) in the Sapinhatuba II neighborhood. According to the PM, officers were on patrol around the place when they were shot at and fought back. When the shooting ended, they found the man shot and with a pistol beside him.
17/03/2023 – Two men involved with drug trafficking died in a shooting with Military Police (PM) in the Areal neighborhood. The Military Police went to the address to make a routine round. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were met with gunfire and fought back. After the shooting ended, criminals fled through nearby streets. During searches of the area, the PM found the two men shot. Two guns and a large amount of drugs were seized.
22/03/2023 – Six people, three men, two women and a 16-year-old teenager, were caught with a pistol, a grenade and drugs while driving along the Rio-Santos Highway (BR-101). The approach took place during an inspection by the Federal Highway Police (PRF). According to the PRF, the driver tried to circumvent the line of vehicles to escape inspection. The movement was noticed by officers, who then stopped the car.
25/03/2023 – A man involved in drug trafficking died during a shooting with military police in the Sapinhatuba I neighborhood. According to the Military Police, officers were patrolling the area when they were shot at and shot back. At the end of the confrontation, the police found the man. With him, drugs and a gun were seized.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
