03/10/2023 – The Military Police carried out an operation against organized crime in the Sapinhatuba l, ll and lll neighborhoods. A car and two motorcycles were seized. No one was arrested. Around 40 military police officers, in addition to agents from the Municipal Guard, participated in the operation.

05/10/2023 – A 65-year-old man shot dead his ex-wife, 41, inside his store, on Rua do Comércio, in downtown Angra dos Reis, around 14:30. According to the Police Station Specialized in Women’s Assistance (Deam), the man broke into the establishment and fired shots, which hit the woman and a store employee. Then he took his own life. Still according to Deam, the motivation for the crime was nonconformity with the end of the relationship.
09/10/2023 – A criminal involved in drug trafficking died during a shooting with military police officers in Morro do Carmo. Officers were on routine patrol when they were shot by armed men. They retaliated and there was a confrontation.
10/10/2023 – The Military Police carried out operations against drug trafficking in the hills of Glória 1 and 2, Carmo and Peres, in the city center. The objective was to arrest drug traffickers, serve arrest warrants and dismantle criminal organizations, in addition to seizing drugs, vehicles and weapons used by groups operating in the region. According to the PM’s report, cocaine, marijuana, a perfume launcher, a radio communicator, a shotgun, and ammunition were seized.
12/10/2023 – Two men involved in drug trafficking died after a shooting with military police officers in the Sapinhatuba lll neighborhood. According to the Military Police, the agents were on patrol when they were shot at by men who were selling drugs and retaliated. At the end of the shooting, the police forces.
22/10/2023 – A man was found dead on the margins of the Rio-Santos Highway. According to the Federal Highway Police, the body of the victim, who appeared to be between 25 and 30 years old, was at km 474, in the Lambicada neighborhood. The Civil Police are investigating the case, and the circumstances of the death are still unknown.
22/10/2023 – A man was shot dead on Rua Francelino Alves de Lima, in the Nova Angra neighborhood. According to the Military Police, a witness said that the shots were fired by two men who arrived at the scene in a car and fled after committing the crime. So far no one has been arrested and the motive for the murder is still unknown.
25/10/2023 – An elderly man, aged 69, was shot dead in the Serra d’Água neighborhood. According to the Fire Department, the victim was already dead when they arrived at the scene. The police still do not know the motivation for the crime.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
