04/09/2023 – One man died, and another was shot in a Military Police (PM) operation against drug trafficking in the Sapinhatuba neighborhoods l, ll and lll. According to the Military Police, there were shootings at two points of the operation. In the Sapinhatuba I neighborhood, a man died. In Sapinhatuba III, a boy was shot. The PM seized weapons, drugs, ammunition, and chargers.
12/09/2023 – The Military Police (PM) carried out an operation against drug trafficking in the hills of Glória 1 and 2, Carmo and Peres. According to the PM, the objective is to dismantle criminal organizations operating in the localities, arrest criminals involved in organized crime and seize weapons and drugs, in addition to removing illegal vehicles from the streets. Drugs, eight motorcycles and a car were seized.
14/09/2023 – A 23-year-old young man was shot dead on Rua Hipólito Travassos, in the Frade neighborhood. According to the Military Police (PM), the young man had criminal records. Also, according to the PM, the motivation for the crime would have been a settling of scores between the victim and the shooter. According to the Fire Department, he was shot in the face.
17/09/2023 – A 17-year-old teenager was arrested after a shooting between criminals and military police on Rua São Sebastião Botelho, in the Lambicada neighborhood. According to the Military Police (PM), officers were shot at while patrolling the address and retaliated. At the end of the shooting, the police found a 12-gauge shotgun, a replica rifle and cocaine. Other criminals managed to escape.
21/09/2023 – Two criminals involved in drug trafficking were shot in a shooting with military police officers in Morro da Carioca. According to the Military Police, the garrison was patrolling the area when they were shot at by the criminals. The shots were returned.
22/09/2023 – The Military Police arrested two criminals and seized drugs in Morro da Glória 1 and Japuíba during routine patrols. Officers seized a pistol, two radio transmitters, marijuana, cocaine, and crack. There was a shooting, no one was injured.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
