03/09/2025 – On Wednesday (03/09), a civil police officer from the 166th DP was shot during a confrontation with criminals in Vale da Banqueta but survived without serious injury thanks to his bulletproof vest. The shooter, a former police officer, was also hit during the exchange of gunfire and died. The operation was carried out by civil police from Angra and other units, along with the 33rd BPM, as part of actions to identify and arrest those responsible for the murder of another civil police officer from the 166th DP, killed outside a church on 31 August.
03/09/2025 – On Wednesday (03/09), during operations linked to the investigation of the murder of a civil police officer from the 166th DP, agents of the 33rd BPM arrested the local trafficking manager of the Casinhas do Bracuí. Identified as the second in command under a CV leader already imprisoned since July 2023, he was responsible for supplying drug sales points and carrying heavy weapons. During the arrest, he attempted to flee on a motorcycle but crashed. Police seized the motorcycle, 273 vials of cocaine, 30 rocks of crack, and two cell phones.

05/09/2025 – On Friday (05/09), Civil Police officers from the Women’s Protection Police Station (Deam) in Angra dos Reis arrested a man in Parque Mambucaba under a preventive detention order. He is accused of assault and making threats against his ex-partner after refusing to accept the end of their relationship. According to investigators, he repeatedly threatened her and physically attacked her with punches and slaps, leading to the issuance of the warrant.
05/09/2025 – On Friday night (05/09), officers of the 33rd BPM captured a fugitive in the Promorar neighborhood, Campo Belo. The man tried to escape upon noticing the police patrol on Rua das Margaridas, but was caught shortly after. He was confirmed to be wanted for drug trafficking and criminal association, arrested, and taken to the 166th Police Station, where he remains in custody.
10/09/2025 – On Wednesday (10/09), Civil Police arrested five young adults and apprehended a teenager during an operation in Caieira. Officers found drugs on a table at a party where alcohol, narcotics, and minors were present. Two organizers, aged 20 and 22, were detained, along with two 24-year-olds who were fugitives from a previous case, a 24-year-old woman accused of taking a 14-year-old relative, and a teenager wanted for drug offenses.
12/09/2025 – On Friday (12/09), civil police arrested a 59-year-old fugitive in Parque Mambucaba. Wanted since 2018 under a preventive detention order, he was accused of committing a qualified homicide in 1994. His capture, part of Operation Arrasto, followed intelligence work that located him on Rua Francisco Guedes da Silva.
13/09/2025 – On Saturday (13/09), a 28-year-old man was shot dead with four gunshots on Rua da Conquista, in Parque Mambucaba. His body was found in the morning by residents, who called the police. Investigators ruled out any connection to drug trafficking, as the victim was not involved in such activities.
16/09/2025 – On Tuesday (16/09), Civil Police captured a 24-year-old fugitive during a soccer game in Porteira, Grande Japuíba; wanted since June for drug trafficking and armed criminal association, he was identified and arrested on the sports court while wearing soccer clothes, and according to investigations, was linked to the “Tropa do México,” a faction tied to the Red Command (CV) that controls drug sales in central Angra, with the arrest carried out under Operation Arrasto targeting criminal leaders and operators in the region.
24/09/2025 – On Wednesday (24/09), the Federal Police launched an operation to dismantle an illegal firearms sales network in the Costa Verde region of Rio de Janeiro, focusing on Angra dos Reis and Paraty. Acting on an anonymous tip, investigators identified weapons being sold without legal documentation. During the action, officers executed a search warrant at a suspect’s residence in Paraty, seizing a firearm and a cellphone.
25/09/2025 – On Thursday (25/09), police intelligence officers (P2) arrested a fugitive from Espírito Santo who had been hiding in the neighborhood of Frade. He had been convicted of drug trafficking in the municipality of Ibatiba and was wanted by the state’s judiciary. The man was taken to the 166th Police Precinct and remains at the disposal of the courts.
25/09/2025 – On Thursday (25/09), police intelligence officers (P2) arrested the drug trafficker responsible for managing operations in the Banqueta neighborhood. He had three arrest warrants pending against him: two for bodily injury and torture, and one for drug trafficking and criminal association. The man was accused of shooting two women in the hands in November 2023, after they were caught stealing liquor and beer, in what police described as a “criminal court” punishment. During the arrest, officers seized drugs and a radio transmitter.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered every week.
- If you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- If you are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from any windows, and do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Pay attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Morro da Fortaleza, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade, Bracuí, Morro do Santo Antônio, and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas and after nightfall.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts, and robberies.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
