The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) asked the Federal Highway Police (PRF) to present within 15 days the studies in progress on the use of cameras by agents during their approaches. The request was made within the procedure opened in the Public Ministry that analyzes the need for the use of cameras to prevent police violence. This procedure was launched due to the repercussions of the Genivaldo de Jesus’s case, who died asphyxiated with pepper gas inside the trunk of a PRF car after resisting an arrest for driving without his helmet on. The news of a similar aggression justified the study on the cameras and proved their need. The MPF has already asked information to the states on the use of cameras: some states declared being on an advanced stage regarding the device (Sao Paulo, Santa Catarina) while some others declared they had no ongoing studies on the topic and that they did not use cameras at all.
