On Friday (07/07), Rio Civil Police received five hundred new M400 pro 556 caliber rifles, produced by the German Sig Sauer. The delivery was made by Governor Cláudio Castro, in a ceremony held in the Police City. In all, more than R$ 3 million were allocated for the acquisition of weapons, purchased from funds from the parliamentary amendment of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, known for defending the guns agenda. The senator was next to the governor, and both posed for pictures with guns drawn.

The forecast is that this year new resources will be received for the purchase of precision rifles, used by snipers. The total contribution for the purchase of new weapons should reach R$ 5.5 million to re-equip the corporation, as well as to provide more security to the officers.
Details of the New Weapons
The weapons received have a six-stage regulated stock to facilitate the shooter’s position; is ambidextrous; retains the magazine and the fire selector; they have the coat of arms of Rio de Janeiro State stamped, as well as the inscription “Sepol”, in reference to the Civil Police Secretariat; it has the possibility of installing optical sights or spyglasses; and are sized to be used in armored cars.
Sate Governor Says He Is Against the Use of Cameras on Uniforms in Intelligence Operations
In a press conference after the event, Cláudio Castro commented on installation of cameras on the uniforms of officers of the elite troops of Rio Civil and Military Police, after the state government published a decree determining the installation of the equipment, in compliance with the determination of the Supreme Court Federal (STF). He explained that he is against the use of cameras in the case of intelligence operations by battalions like Bope but said that he will comply with the court decision that requires their installation.
