By the end of the year, the operational units of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro will be working with a new type of weapon. The corporation command has just acquired 600 5.56 caliber rifles from the Israeli brand IWI.
Lighter, more compact and with a holographic sight, the new weaponry offers greater effectiveness in patrol missions and, above all, in operations in conflict areas.
Another advantage offered by the new rifle model is the reduction of the risk of unwanted side effects, especially in actions in densely populated areas. This is because, in addition to greater accuracy, the 5.56 caliber rifle has less potential for destruction when compared to the 7.62 caliber, currently used.
