RIO DE JANEIRO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 1ST BULLETIN OF NOVEMBER

The Military Police put together a plan to reinforce security and avoid conflicts between members of the organized supporters of Fluminense and Boca Juniors, who competed in the Libertadores final on Saturday (04/11), at Maracanã. The policing scheme was carried out with 2,240 agents around the stadium and support from the National Force. But not even that was able to prevent confusion. Before the game, at the Central do Brasil station, groups of Fluminense fans threw glasses of drinks at people wearing Boca Juniors shirts. Once at the entrance to Maracanã, a group of Argentine fans who allegedly had irregular tickets tried to force entry into the blockades set up by the police. In both situations there were no injuries or arrests. Five people were arrested for presenting false Conmebol credentials to try to enter the stadium. In Copacabana, South Zone, a Boca Juniors fan was arrested after calling a student a “monkey” and imitating the animal to the 17-year-old girl.
