RIO DE JANEIRO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 3RD BULLETIN OF JANUARY

Public Security Institute (ISP) statistics pointed out that crimes of extorsion increased by more than 40%, while intentional lethal and violent crimes increased by 7,4% in 2022. Other types of crimes also increased such as threatening (14,8%), cell phone theft (10%), and other thefts (3%). Despite these numbers, some rates decreased in comparison with 2022, such as deaths resulting from police interventions (35%), and street robberies (17%). Also, in 2023, the corporation seized 610 rifles, representing an increase of 28% in 2022.
