Starting on the 7 September holiday, Rio de Janeiro Military Police’s Summer Operation collected 541 bladed weapons during this period, in the downtown and South Zone of the city. These are knives – like the one that killed Gabriel Mongenot, the tourist and Taylor Swift fan, stabbed in Copacabana – but also scissors and other piercing objects. Operation Summer also recorded 24,758 approaches to people until last weekend.

17/11/2023 – Roberto da Silva Batista was arrested for raping a vulnerable person in Copacabana, South Zone. The crime happened on Tuesday (14/11), when a 19-year-old girl was returning from Pedra do Sal, downtown Rio, and going home. According to investigations, the man raped the woman at a construction site on Rua Xavier da Silveira.
17/11/2023 – Two men were killed at a club on Avenida Brasil, in the Guadalupe neighborhood, North Zone. According to information from the Military Police, officers received information about a shooting in the location. When they arrived at the scene, they found two dead men. The two men have not yet been identified, and the police are investigating who committed the crime.
19/11/2023 – A tourist from Mato Grosso do Sul was killed at dawn in an attempted robbery on Copacabana beach, South Zone. Three criminals were arrested. The victim is Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, 25 years old. He was in the city for singer Taylor Swift’s concert at the Engenhão Stadium. The cousins said that Gabriel dozed on the sand while his friends talked. At that moment, they were approached by the bandits. Gabriel woke up in the middle of the robbery and was attacked.
20/11/2023 – A man was shot dead in Jardim Maravilha, in Guaratiba, West Zone. According to the Military Police (PM), officers were called to check an incident of firearm shooting on Rua Tocantinópolis and, upon arriving at the scene, they found the man with gunshot wounds. The PM investigates the case.
20/11/2023 – State deputy Marcelo Dino (União Brasil) had his car hit by two shots as he passed along Avenida Brasil, near the entrance to Vila Kennedy, West Zone. Dino was returning from a family trip when he mistakenly entered the neighborhood following GPS guidance. Upon noticing barricades, he tried to leave the place quickly. That’s when he and his relatives were surprised by heavily armed bandits who approached and shot at the deputy’s armored car.
21/11/2023 – Two men died after a shooting attack on Estrada Intendente Magalhães, in Vila Valqueire, West Zone. They were in front of a supermarket. According to witnesses, bandits arrived shooting at one of them. Witnesses claim that one of the victims was a locksmith, and that the bandits’ target was the other victim, who was called João Victor. The Civil Police reported that they are investigating the deaths.
21/11/2023 – Military Police officers were arrested for inaction after observing a car being destroyed in front of a corporation station in Cidade de Deus, West Zone. Several items were stolen from the car. Meanwhile, three police officers filmed the action, without intervening. The Internal Affairs Department administratively arrested the officers and began an investigation. According to the police, a traffic stop was taking place. The vehicle and motorcycle were stolen and had been recovered by police minutes before it was destroyed.
21/11/2023 – A 77-year-old Portuguese citizen was arrested for rape in Cosme Velho, South Zone. According to the Special Tourist Assistance Police Station (Deat), the man pressed a Hungarian tourist against the wall and threatened her inside a hostel. The victim gave a statement and left Brazil. According to hostel employees, the Portuguese stay there sometimes and have an inconvenient and annoying attitude towards tourists.
22/11/2023 – The Civil Police arrested a man identified as one of the main drug suppliers for communities dominated by Comando Vermelho in Rio de Janeiro. He was in a luxury apartment in Ipanema, in the South Zone. Nicknamed King, he operated an air route with small aircraft that went to Mato Grosso do Sul and, from there, by vehicle until reaching the Rio communities. According to investigations, the gang is also responsible for shipping cocaine to Brazil using a small plane transport scheme, establishing connections and drug trafficking routes with Nigerian citizens living in São Paulo.
22/11/2023 – Actress Isabelle Drummond was robbed in Leblon, South Zone. She was with a friend when they were captured by the criminals. Her belongings, those of her friend and the driver were taken by four criminals. According to the police, the criminals carried out several robberies during the night.
23/11/2023 – Fred Guedes, former player, and current director of Fluminense, was robbed in Ipanema, South Zone. The former striker was returning from Maracanã Stadium when he was captured. The criminal pointed a gun at his’s head and took his car and cell phone.
