26/09/2026- On Saturday (26), two brothers, identified as 26-year-old Douglas Nogueira and 17-year-old Caio Nogueira, were fatally shot in a drive-by attack in Curicica, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, in an incident witnessed by their mother. A 12-year-old boy was also wounded in the shooting and received medical treatment at Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital before being discharged, while relatives stated the brothers had no involvement in crime and detectives from the Capital Homicide Division (DHC) are investigating the double murder.

27/09/2026 – On Sunday (27), 31-year-old semi-professional Muay Thai fighter Cristiano Gonçalves Figueira, known as “Cristiano Rivotril,” was fatally shot at a bar in Marechal Hermes, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Military Police officers from the 9th BPM were dispatched following reports of his admission to Hospital Estadual Carlos Chagas, where he succumbed to his injuries; authorities suspect he may have been misidentified by the shooter due to his green shirt, and detectives from the Capital Homicide Division (DHC) are investigating the murder to determine the motive and identify the perpetrator.
27/09/2026 – On Sunday (27) morning, intense gun battles broke out in the Santa Maria and Teixeiras communities in Taquara, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, leaving two people injured. A 12-year-old boy and a 60-year-old man were struck and subsequently transported to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital in Barra da Tijuca for medical care; the adolescent has since been discharged, while the elderly victim remains in stable condition.
28/09/2026 – On Monday (28) morning, armed criminals on motorcycles intercepted four charter buses carrying Eleva school students from Barra da Tijuca to an excursion in Vassouras on the Linha Vermelha highway, near the border between Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias. The suspects broke the windshields of two buses, ordered the drivers to position the vehicles across the road to form barricades in retaliation against a Military Police operation in Complexo da Maré, and fled with the keys. BPVE officers assisted in transferring the uninjured children to backup buses so they could resume their trip, while civil police at the 59th DP (Duque de Caxias) registered and are investigating the incident.
28/09/2026 – On Monday (28) morning, a Military Police operation targeting the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) faction in Complexo da Maré, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, triggered intense gun battles that left three suspects dead and 13 people injured, including a police officer, a 15-year-old boy shot in the leg, and a 12-year-old hit by shrapnel from a grenade thrown by drug traffickers. The violent clashes caused widespread public service disruptions across the area, leading to the closure of 41 municipal schools and four primary health centers, while security forces seized 12 rifles, five pistols, and 10 grenades during the incursions.
29/09/2026 – On Tuesday early morning (29), near Pedra do Sal in central Rio, Mexican tourist Carlos Hernandez Ortiz died after falling from the hood of a getaway vehicle while trying to stop thieves who had stolen his phone. According to the Civil Police, who are investigating the incident as a robbery resulting in death (latrocinio), two suspects approached victims with friendly hugs to stealthily snatch their belongings before fleeing to a waiting car. When Ortiz jumped onto the hood, the driver accelerated on an accomplice’s command, causing him to fall and suffer a fatal head injury; police later arrested the driver, Guilherme do Nascimento Pinto, who confessed to receiving R$ 500 per crime in a series of similar robberies, while authorities continue searching for his two accomplices.
29/09/2026 – On Tuesday (29) around 05h20, four-armed criminals robbed two cars in front of the Bossa Nova Mall at Santos Dumont Airport in central Rio de Janeiro. The suspects pointed guns at the victims, threatened to shoot if they fled, and escaped in the stolen vehicles towards the Marcello Alencar Tunnel without causing injuries, with GPS tracking later locating the cars in the Nova Holanda community inside Complexo da Maré while civil police at the Mem de Sá precinct analyze security camera footage to identify the perpetrators.
30/09/2026 – On Wednesday (30) morning, a male passenger was struck and killed by a stray bullet inside a BRT bus while passing the Dois Irmãos community in Curicica, Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The fatal shooting occurred during a 18th BPM Military Police operation targeting criminals involved in territorial disputes and a previous day’s fatal attack near Asa Branca, which resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of three rifles; the Asa Branca BRT station was temporarily closed for a Civil Police forensic examination, and authorities have not yet confirmed the origin of the bullet or the victim’s identity.
01/10/2026 – On Thursday afternoon (1), the Linha Amarela expressway in Rio de Janeiro was completely closed near Morro do Timbau, in the Complexo da Maré, due to a police operation aimed at recovering stolen cargo. The full closure occurred around 17h in the Fundão direction as agents from the Tactical Rounds and Crowd Control Battalion (Recom) were deployed to the area; military police confirmed that no gunfire was exchanged and that the road blockade was executed strictly as a precautionary safety measure. Desperate drivers were forced to drive back against traffic, creating severe gridlock that spilled over onto the Linha Vermelha and surrounding arteries before the expressway was partially reopened around 17h15.
02/10/2026 – On Friday late morning (2), an intense shootout frightened residents in the Northern Rio neighborhoods of Vicente de Carvalho, Vila da Penha, and Vila Kosmos during a Military Police operation to recover stolen cargo. Officers from the Vila Cruzeiro Proximity Police Unit (UPP) and the 41st Military Police Battalion (Irajá) responded to a hijacked delivery truck near an entrance to the Ipase community, where armed suspects opened fire upon their arrival. Following the gunfire exchange, the suspects fled into the community, allowing officers to successfully recover the stolen truck; police have since reinforced security in the area and registered the case at the 27th Police Precinct (Vicente de Carvalho).
