05/08/2022 –A shooting left two wounded on the Negrão de Lima Viaduct, in Madureira, North Zone. According to witnesses, military police officers shot three men who were running between the cars around 19h. Two of them were hit.

Although some places are more dangerous than others, in Rio de Janeiro shootings can happen anywhere and at any time. That’s why it is important to be careful and know how to act. For instance, it is important to know an area that will be visited. Thus, before going somewhere try to get information about the place. Now, if you are on the street and suddenly a shooting starts, immediately seek shelter in the nearest building or house. And only leave your shelter or go to the window when you are sure the danger is over. If that’s not possible, throw yourself on the floor. Also don’t pick up abandoned grenades or bullets as “ souvenirs”, as they can explode and injure you.

05/08/2022 – The Civil Police is investigating the death of a Belgian, husband of a German diplomat in Ipanema, South Zone. To the police the widower said that his husband had a sudden illness, hit his head and died. But the report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and the crime scene investigation in the couple’s apartment showed that the victim would have been the target of a violent death, according to the police. The German consul was arrested.
07/08/2022 – The owner of a pizzeria in Penha, North Zone, died after being shot in an attempted robbery. The victim was going to take a friend and his father to Galeão airport, according to the family. When he was leaving the house, around 5 am, his car was shot three times on Conde de Agrolongo Street.
07/08/2022 – A tourist from Minas Gerais state was injured after a robbery in Copacabana, South Zone. The tourist was walking with her father on the Copacabana sidewalk, when a 17-year-old teenager approached the victim, stole her cell phone and used a shard of glass to cut her neck and ear. The criminal, who was apprehended at the time, has nine other crimes reported on his name.
07/08/2022 – The Civil Police closed a nursing home in the West Zone. Some of those hospitalized had injuries on their bodies. Campo Grande Precinct officers were at the establishment after reports of mistreatment. According to the investigations, the patients were kept in private prison and drugged with medications without medical prescription. Three people were arrested: the owner of the nursing home and two employees.
07/08/2022 – Operation Segurança Presente agents arrested a woman suspected of torturing her son, in Cazuza Square, in Leblon, South Zone. The 11-year-old child ran away from home, in the Vidigal Community, and went to the police to ask for help, as his mother had beaten him with a punch, a metal spoon and a hot frying pan. The woman went to the agents saying she was looking for her son and was taken to the police station. The minor said he was a triplet and that he lived with his other two brothers, who also suffered aggression, and with another five-year-old sister.
08/08/2022 – Employees of Light, an electricity concessionaire, found the body of a man in an underground gallery in downtown Rio. According to the first information, there are suspicions that the man, who was only wearing shorts, was electrocuted while trying to steal cables from the gallery.
09/08/2022 – A 20-year-old man was found dead in Leblon Beach. The young man had been missing since Saturday (06/08), when he went to a party in Vidigal Community, in the South Zone. According to his family, he went with friends to the party and ran away after a fight.
09/08/2022 – Two person died, and others were injured in a shootout between militiamen and drug dealers in Morro do Fubá, in Cascadura neighborhood, North Zone. One of the dead was an American tourist who was shot in the neck at a friend’s house. The other victims were inside a bus when they were hit.
10/08/2022 – Two men died during a shooting with police officers in Engenho de Dentro, North Zone. Teams from the Barra da Tijuca police station and the Special Resources Coordination (Core) were carrying out an operation against a car theft gang when they came across the duo while they were trying to steal a vehicle near Linha Amarela. The criminals reacted and a shooting took place.
10/08/2022 – Two people were shot during an attempted robbery on the Deodoro viaduct, West Zone. According to the Military Police, a retired police officer witnessed the crime and reacted. He was just grazed in the arm. The victim of the attempted robbery was also shot.
10/08/2022 – The wife of singer and songwriter Arlindo Cruz, Babi Cruz, was robbed in Benfica, North Zone. According to Babi, the car in which she was with two other people was blocked in Itapuã Street, and the criminals armed with pistols robbed her other people who were in the car.
11/08/2022 – Agents from the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), the Special Resources Coordination (Core) and the Dog Action Battalion (BAC) carried out an operation in Complexo da Maré, North Zone. Early in the morning, agents found a ton of drugs in Parque União. Officers were looking for a car theft gang and were trying to locate the killers of a police officer killed inside a police car earlier this year. According to the officers, they were attacked and there was a shooting. One suspect died and another was injured at the scene.
12/08/2022 – An off-duty military police officer reacted to an attempted robbery of a bus in the Maracanã neighborhood, North Zone. According to the Military Police, one of the suspects died, and the other managed to escape. The incident happened in front of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) campus.
11/08/2022 – A man famous on social media was arrested by police officers from the Marechal Hermes police station for assaulting and keeping his girlfriend who was also a digital influencer in private prison in Santa Cruz, West Zone. They had been living together for four months. According to Flávio Loureiro, the police chief investigating the case, the woman was prevented from leaving the house on Wednesday 10th.
12/08/2022 – A woman was arrested by police officers from the Capital Homicide Police Station on suspicion of murdering her own daughter, who was only 2 months old. She was arrested after the baby died at the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital, in Penha, North Zone. Police were informed by the health unit that the child had brain injuries and had a fractured left arm.
