15/06/2023 – Four men were arrested after a shooting with police in Santa Cruz, West Zone. Three of them tried to escape the police siege by throwing themselves into a sewer ditch, but the police managed to catch up with them. The police had information that a group of militiamen was gathering in the region known as Vitor Dumas. At the beginning of the operation, officers were attacked by gunfire and fought back. With them, a gun, a grenade, three cell phones and 173 ammunition were seized, in addition to three cars and a motorcycle.

15/06/2023 – A 19-year-old young man was shot dead in Itanhangá, West Zone. He was at a friend’s auto repair shop when he was approached by a man. A security camera at the site recorded the scene, which took place on Avenida Engenheiro Sousa Filho, around 3:30 pm. According to witnesses, the man was part of the local militia.
16/06/2023 – A shooting took place at Morro dos Macacos, in Vila Isabel, North Zone. The confrontation would have started around 21:00 and was the result of an attempt of Morro São João’s criminals, in Engenho Novo, which is controlled by traffickers from the Red Command, to invade Morro dos Macacos, which is controlled by criminals from the Pure Third Command.
16/06/2023 – A construction worker was shot dead by a military police officer after a fight between his wives in São Cristóvão, North Zone. The women are mother and daughter and had broken society in a restaurant in the neighborhood. According to witnesses, the two women got into a body fight. During the fight, the police officer drew his gun and shot the construction worker.
17/06/2023 – An approach by a Federal Highway Police officer ended with a woman dead on the Washington Luiz Highway, close to the Parada de Lucas neighborhood. According to the Federal Highway Police, the officer shot after the car where the victim was in did not obey an order to stop. The police had received information about a car making sudden maneuvers at high speed.
18/06/2023 – Police officers from the Jacarepaguá Battalion were trapped in a house in Morro da Chacrinha, in Praça Seca, West Zone, after criminals shot and destroyed a vehicle. They were called to the scene to help an ambulance, which was taking care of a resident when it was attacked by a gang. To rescue the vehicle destroyed by shots and with the tires flat, the police had to rely on the help of an armored vehicle from the corporation.
18/06/2023 – A 16-year-old teen was killed in Catiri, in Bangu, West Zone. He was murdered shortly after arriving from work, near the gate of his house. Residents denounce that a new militia gang has taken over the community and has been spreading terror. The case is being investigated by the Capital Homicide Police.
18/06/2023 – A military police officer (PM) was shot dead in Anchieta, North Zone. He was getting into his car on Rua Juarana when three men fired shots. According to witnesses, they were waiting for the PM to arrive.
19/06/2023 – A young man died after an argument at the exit of a nightclub in Piedade, North Zone. According to witnesses, he would have been executed by a military police office. The Internal Affairs of the Military Police determined the establishment of an investigative procedure to investigate the circumstances of the death.
19/06/2023 – During the early hours of the morning, two men broke into and stole belongings from an art gallery – the Provisional Gallery –, in Ipanema, South Zone. Among the items stolen is a 35-kilogram sculpture valued at R$10,000. The criminals’ action was caught by surveillance cameras at the gallery, located on Rua Visconde de Pirajá.
19/06/2023 – One criminal was arrested, and another died after a police chase with a shooting in Bangu, West Zone. They were leaving a forested area wearing camouflage clothing and weapons when they came across military police. Two rifles and camouflage clothing were seized.
20/06/2023 – A man kidnapped by drug dealers in the Manguinhos community, North Zone, was found late this morning. Civilian and military police officers carried out an operation in the community to locate the victim. The man and a friend, who is a military police (PM) officer, were attacked by criminals on Avenida dos Democráticos. The PM fought with the bandits and managed to escape. But his friend was captured and taken by the traffickers to the interior of the community.
21/06/2023 – Two men were arrested for robbing the same victim in two different houses in Rio’s metropolitan area. They were hiding in Baixada Fluminense. The first robbery took place in January of this year, in Itaboraí. Months later, the second incident, happened on Rua Ana Neri, in the Rocha neighborhood, North Zone. Criminals were identified through security cameras. In testimony, the victim said that they took more than R$ 30,000 in cash and jewelry. After the second robbery, criminals tried to extort the victim asking for money to leave the family alone.
21/06/2023 – A man was killed in the community of Terreirão, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, West Zone. Next to the victim’s body, money was left. The murder was the second recorded in Terreirão in 24 hours. The day before, a 25-year-old man was shot at least four times. On social media, residents of the region associate the deaths to a dispute between rival criminal groups.
22/06/2023 – The body of a 41-year-old app driver was found inside his own car, parked on Rua Almirante Mariath, in Caju, North Zone. According to his family, he was doing an app ride when he stopped responding. According to the police, he had left a passenger in a community and, as he lived in a rival favela, he was kidnapped by bandits and killed.
22/06/2023 – The Military Police carried out an operation to arrest militia leaders in Paciência and Santa Cruz, West Zone, throughout Thursday (22) night and early morning of Friday (23). The actions were concentrated in the Três Pontes, Antares and Aço communities. There was a shooting, one person died, and another was injured. Four people were arrested. Weapons, clothing, and cell phones were seized. Police officers were investigating intelligence tip about a meeting involving West Zone militia chiefs. To stop the police from advancing, criminals set barricades and a bus on fire.
