27/05/2023 – The Military Police banned a clandestine bingo that operated in a store on Araçatuba Street, in the Coelho Neto neighborhood, North Zone. In the action, five gambling machines were seized. Based on information from the Disque Denúncia, the military police carried out an intelligence operation with the aim of repressing gambling.

28/05/2023 – Mother and daughter were arrested with around 60,000 ecstasy pills and 9 kg of MDMA at Galeão Airport. They were returning from a flight from Paris, with a connection in Portugal, and were caught by the Federal Revenue Service. The drugs were valued at more than R$4 million. The passengers, aged 47 and 23, were sent to open their bags after the luggage was inspected by x-ray and the existence of suspicious content was observed. Revenue agents identified a false bottom and performed a preliminary narcotest, which revealed the presence of a synthetic narcotic substance. They were arrested.
28/05/2023 – A man, identified as Cara de Pedra and named by the Military Police (PM) as one of the drug lords in the area known as ‘Favelão’, was arrested in the Gardênia Azul neighborhood, West Zone. According to the PM, he was arrested by Shock Police Battalion (BPChq) officers during a patrol in the region. A gun, ammunition, and cocaine were seized from him.
28/05/2023 – Will Whitney, who is part of the technical team of singer Lana Del Rey’s tour, had his cell phone stolen during the singer’s visit to Rio de Janeiro. In a post on social media, he reported that he was stolen during a personal tour of Rio.
29/05/2023 – A pursuit of criminals in Bangu, West Zone, ended with a collision between two vehicles from the Bangu Battalion. Four officers, who were in the vehicles, were injured. According to the Military Police, the vehicles were in a police chase when they lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The case was on the corner of Ceres and Maria Estrela streets.
29/05/2023 – The Civil Police is investigating a gang specialized in the pix kidnapping, in an even more violent way, in the region of Vargem Pequena, West Zone. Kidnappings also began to involve friends of the kidnapped person. According to information, criminals approach the victims, put them in a car and force them to record videos for friends asking for transfers via Pix. One businessman said he was held at gunpoint. Criminals forced him to record messages asking for money and sent it to contacts. The man appears in the video with a gun pointed at his face. A businesswoman was another victim. She was arriving at the company where she works when she was approached by armed men. They wanted her cell phone and bank app password.
30/05/2023 – A tourist was found dead in a hotel room on Rua do Lavradio, in Lapa, downtown Rio. He was accompanied by another man, who was arrested shortly after leaving the hotel. The 31-year-old tourist and the other man arrived at the hotel together around 2:00. Shortly before 6:00, the man left the place alone. Shortly after, the receptionist became suspicious and went to check the room. That’s when, she found the victim tied to the bed and already dead. Some people recognized the victim’s companion in the vicinity of the hotel, and he was arrested.
30/08/2023 – A penal police officer fled from the Vicente Piragibe Penal Institute, in the Penitentiary Complex of Gericinó, in Gericinó, West Zone. He fled to avoid a possible flagrante delicto, as there was a body scanner inspection in the unit. Before entering, the officer returned to his car, where he would have left something, to later enter the unit to start his workday. However, the suspicious movement was caught by the security cameras and attracted the attention of the inspection. After lunch, he said he was feeling sick and was going to leave. On his way out, agents went after him, to find out what he had kept in the car, but the officer took off and dragged one of the agents from the scene.
30/05/2023 – A man, still unidentified, was shot dead in the neighborhood of Anil, in Jacarepaguá, West Zone. According to the Military Police (PM), the case occurred at the entrance to the locality known as Buraco Quente. Also, according to the police, officers from the Jacarepaguá Battalion were called to attend to the occurrence. At the scene, police found a lifeless body with gunshot marks. The crime is being investigated.
31/05/2023 – The Military Police carried out an operation in at least 7 communities in the North and West Zones. The actions are aimed at repressing drug trafficking and cargo theft in the city. Rua Leopoldo Bulhões was even closed off near the Linha Amarela, in Benfica, after a shooting. The military police also carry out operations in the communities of Caju, Morro dos Macacos, Morro São João, Parque União, Nova Holanda, Cidade de Deus and Morro da Serrinha.
31/05/2023 – Members of “bate-bola” gangs were targets of a Civil Police operation. They are suspected of carrying out robberies in subway stations during the last carnival. Five people were arrested. In MetrôRio security camera footage, it is possible to observe the gang’s action at the Pavuna and Engenheiro Rubens Paiva stations, both in the North Zone. According to the police, they took advantage of being masked and in large numbers to commit robberies with the right to surrender by firearm and beating a victim.
31/05/2023 – The criminal known as Surfistinha da Penha, famous on social media for showing off the proceeds of robberies, in addition to recording and posting his criminal actions on a motorcycle, was found dead on Pedro Rufino Street, in the Cordovil neighborhood, North Zone. Police were triggered after a shooting between criminals who were in two cars. Surfistinha was found already dead along with another unidentified person.
31/05/2023 – Civil Police arrested a criminal for robbing jewelry stores in Rio de Janeiro. The fugitive from justice, known as Orelha, was arrested at the Irajá Cemetery, North Zone. Now, the police’s goal is to find other members of the group. According to investigations, the gang rented a property next to the jewelry stores and, at night, made a hole in the wall, deactivated the security system, and took everything.
01/06/2023 – Civil Police arrested, in Operation Contamination, a man appointed as one of those responsible for money laundering in the largest militia in the state, headed by Zinho. He was arrested at home, in a luxury condominium in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone. Police seized two rifles, ammunition, and jewelry. According to the police, Clebinho owns gas stations and convenience stores used to give apparent legality to the money obtained from security fees, loan sharking, extortion, illegal fuel trade, arms trafficking and exploitation of alternative transport and hunting machines.
02/06/2023 – A dispute between rival militia gangs left at least five people dead in the region known as the Guandu community, in Santa Cruz, West Zone. The place would have been the scene of a dispute between rival militia gangs, led by Luís Antônio da Silva Braga, Zinho, and Alan Ribeiro Soares, Nanan. Three of the dead were found near Avenida João XXIII. The bodies were near a stolen car. According to information from officers who were at the scene, they would be linked to Nanan’s gang. Later, the Military Police were called to Rua Arlindo dos Anjos, where they found two other dead people. Investigations are being carried out to clarify what happened.
