In August 2025, the Baixada Santista region saw an increase in attempted homicides, robberies followed by murder, and rapes compared to the same month in 2024, according to São Paulo’s Public Security Secretariat. There were 20 attempted homicides (up from 15), with Santos leading, three deaths after robbery (up from none), mainly in Praia Grande, and 16 rapes (up from 14), mostly in Santos and Itanhaém. From January to August, all three crimes also rose compared to last year. Meanwhile, intentional homicides dropped from 14 to 6, robberies fell by 28% (774 to 554), and thefts also decreased slightly.

28/09/2025 – On Sunday (28/09), police identified a 31-year-old man suspected of robbery and attempted kidnapping. The victim was attacked after leaving an English class in the Boqueirão neighborhood, where the suspect tried to force her into her car, strangled her, and bit her nose during a struggle. She managed to honk the horn, escape with injuries, and call for help, though the assailant fled with her phone. Security camera footage and witness statements confirmed his identity, and police recovered clothing he discarded during the escape.
29/09/2025 – On Monday (29/09), Civil Police carried out new search and seizure warrants in Santos, Praia Grande, and São Vicente as part of the investigation into the execution of former delegate Ruy Ferraz Fontes, who was murdered on 15 September. The operation targeted at least eight addresses linked to suspects, including properties used by the group in Praia Grande and Mongaguá, where rifles were allegedly stored and DNA evidence was recovered. So far, three men and one woman have been arrested, while four suspects remain at large. Fontes was considered a central figure in the fight against organized crime in Brazil.
30/09/2025 – Two electronics shopkeepers got into a fistfight on Tuesday (30/09) in Gonzaga, during a dispute over pricing for Apple’s newly launched iPhone 17 Pro Max. The altercation occurred near the intersection of Marcílio Dias and Othon Feliciano streets, a central area known for electronics stores.
