04/08/2024 – A fugitive from justice was arrested on Sunday (4) in São Jorge. According to the State Department of Public Security, Military Police officers were patrolling the area when they saw a man acting suspiciously trying to cover his face. According to the Military Police, the suspect had more than ten previous convictions for theft as well as an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

07/08/2024 – Nine people were found in a clandestine situation inside a ship that docked at the Port of Santos on Wednesday (7). According to the Federal Police (PF), the group claimed to be Nigerian and boarded in secret at the Port of Lagos. According to the city government, they will be isolated and under PF surveillance for ten days in a hotel, by the Health Surveillance protocol.
10/08/2024 – A 36-year-old waiter shot dead another waiter inside the restaurant where they worked, on Saturday (10), in Santos. The crime happened after a fight. The case occurred around 19:20, on Rua Tolentino Filgueiras, in the Gonzaga neighborhood. According to the Fire Department, a SAMU doctor found the victim dead on the spot. Information about the motivation for the fight, however, has not yet been released. The suspect fled.
11/08/2024 – A man was shot during an exchange of fire between military police and criminals, on Sunday morning (11), on Caminho da Capela, in the Rádio Clube neighborhood. As recorded in a police report (BO), the victim was not involved in the confrontation. According to the police record, the shooting began after three criminals shot in the direction of agents who were trying to approach a motorcyclist. Still, according to the BO, the suspects fled after the arrival of police reinforcements. No one was arrested.
12/08/2024 – Military police exchanged gunfire with a 39-year-old man, on Monday (12), on Antonio Ablas Filho Street, in Rádio Clube, after he stole a car, on Maestro Antônio Garofalo Street, in the Santa Maria neighborhood. According to the police report, a woman who was with the criminal was shot during the confrontation and, when approached by the police, passed on information about her partner.
20/08/2024 – A 38-year-old woman, who was listed as missing, was arrested on Tuesday morning (20) in the Macuco neighborhood, in Santos, in an operation by the Civil Police against drug trafficking in the city. According to the Civil Police, agents of the 3rd Police District (DP) of Santos located an invaded land that was being used as a point of sale for drugs. At the scene, the police saw the woman leaving a makeshift shack and throwing a bag over a wall. The other suspect, a 21-year-old man, was also at the scene. Both were searched and, with them, nothing was found. Upon inspecting the bag thrown by the woman, however, the agents located drugs, packages for the sale of drugs, values in real and in dollars, as well as a precision scale. 12 portions of marijuana (27g) and a crack rock (43g) were seized.
23/08/2024 – Two men, aged 26 and 44, were arrested for robbing a house in Santos. The Civil Police said they had identified a third criminal, 25, and reported that the trio was part of a gang that robbed homes in the city. The case happened on the morning of last Friday (23), on Saturnino de Brito Street, in the Marapé neighborhood. According to the Civil Police, two suspects entered the property announcing the robbery, but one of the victims managed to call the PM. When agents arrived, two criminals fled in a car, but a 44-year-old gang member was arrested near the residence. The second suspect was then arrested in the Rádio Clube neighborhood. The third suspect remains at large despite having been identified.
24/08/2024 – The 4th Riot Police Battalion (BPChq) seized, on Saturday (24), a large quantity of cocaine base paste stuck to the hull of a ship in the Port of Santos. According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP), agents used a robot submarine to monitor vessels moored at the pier during an underwater operation, which began last Friday (23). The ship used to transport the narcotics left Argentina and was bound for Spain. The agents entered the internal galleries of the ship’s hull and found five wrappers, with 93 tablets of the drug, totaling 114kg of drugs.
27/08/2024 – A gang specialized in money laundering, financial fraud, and concealment of illicit assets was the target of Operation Candy Shop, carried out on Tuesday (27) by the 4th Cybercrime Precinct (DCCiber), in Santos, São Vicente, and Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, in addition to the capital of São Paulo. Two vehicles valued at approximately R$ 330,000 were seized. According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP), agents served 11 search and seizure warrants. In addition to the luxury vehicles, four watches, six cell phones, three notebooks, and R$ 33.2,000 in cash were seized.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
