03/12/2022 – A couple was robbed on Ceará Street, in the Pompeia neighborhood. Images from security cameras show the action of criminals. The couple walks down the sidewalk with a pram and is approached by two individuals. One of them tries to take what appears to be a cap from the robbed man’s hand and forces him to hand over his wedding ring. The other approaches the woman, who is holding the pram. A third criminal is waiting for his accomplices on the street.

10/12/2022 – A Military Police (PM) team caught a criminal on a motorcycle, without a helmet and shooting in the air on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Fátima, near the Caneleira neighborhood. Upon noticing the police car, the criminals shot at the officers. The police began a pursuit of the shooter who fled to the Morro do Tetéu community. On a certain stretch of road, however, the military police came across a group of armed criminals who shot at them. The PMs fought back and called in reinforcements.
14/12/2022 – The Civil Police carried out an operation to combat drug trafficking. Police teams began the operation in the Castelo neighborhood. Several special groups were involved in the work, including the Armed Group for the Repression of Robberies and Assaults (Garra), the Special Operations Group (GOE) and the Special Reaction Group (GER). Two criminals were arrested.
15/12/2022 – A woman was arrested by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), after stealing wires from a power box in the Rubens Ferreira Martins tunnel, downtown Santos. Operational Control Center (CCO) cameras identified two criminals breaking the equipment door. Immediately, municipal guards were called and captured the criminal. A suspect managed to escape through the stairs of Morro São Bento.
20/12/2022 – A man was arrested after robbing a pharmacy in the Gonzaga neighborhood. According to staff members, the criminals would have entered armed, threatened them and then demanded money from the cashier. He took about R$900.00. The Military Police were called and managed to arrest the criminal in the Estuário neighborhood.
25/12/2022 – A thief was arrested when patrolling guards saw him fleeing on foot after pulling a gold chain from around a man’s neck, in Vila Mathias.
26/12/2022 – A shooting on Morro São Bento left one man injured. He was on a motorcycle with another criminal, who was arrested, after an approach by the Military Police (PM). According to the PM, officers were accompanying a motorcycle with suspicious men on Rua São Roque. When the police went to approach, the criminals abandoned the motorcycle and one of them would have shot at the officers, who fought back.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
