24/02/2023 – A 33-year-old man was arrested for rape on Avenida Presidente Wilson, in front of the Submarine Emissary, in the José Menino neighborhood. The victim was an 11-year-old girl who was walking with her family through the area near the Quebra-Mar. Military police officers were patrolling the neighborhood when they were called, arriving at the scene, they found the victim accompanied by her mother, the perpetrator and several people around.

01/03/2023 – A trio was arrested for carrying out scams at flea markets in Santos. They were found by the police in the Jabaquara neighborhood. The scammers arrived at the city’s flea markets and set up a stall with fruits, greens, or vegetables and, when the customer made the payment, they put high values, reaching R$ 5 thousand. To ensure that the victims did not see the changed value, the trio used machines with damaged or dim displays.
07/03/2023 – Three criminals robbed a store inside Shopping Parque Balneário, in the Gonzaga neighborhood. In the images from the store’s own monitoring camera, it is possible to see that a woman distracts the seller, while one of the accomplices steals the items.
08/03/2023 – Security cameras recorded the moment when two criminals shot at the entrance to the 5th Police District of Santos, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood. They were on a motorcycle and the one on the back, with a pistol, fired the shots. They run away soon after.
11/03/2022 – A group of 10 criminals carried out a mass robbery on the Boqueirão beach. Two minors aged 15 and 17 were apprehended by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM). To the officers, the victim said that she was surrounded by the criminals and had her bicycle, backpack and a certain amount of money stolen.
13/03/2022 – An employee of the company that operates railway lines in Baixada Santista, was arrested by the Civil Police during an operation to curb thefts and robberies of train cars in the region. According to the police, he would have received money from criminals to facilitate cargo theft.
18/03/2022 – An 18-year-old man who worked at a kiosk on Boqueirão beach was killed by a homeless person who stabbed him in the abdomen with a glass bottle. The crime took place near Canal 3, in the Boqueirão neighborhood. The criminal was arrested by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM).
22/03/2022 – A man was arrested by municipal guards when he was trying to steal a bicycle, on Praia do José Menino. Agents who monitor the cameras at the Operational Control Center (CCO) saw the criminal trying to break the lock on a bicycle. A team from the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) was triggered and managed to arrest him. At the time of the arrest, a woman appeared and informed the municipal guards that, minutes before, the same man had tried to steal her purse.
26/03/2022 – A 55-year-old gas station attendant was attacked by criminals with a stun gun during a robbery at a gas station on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Fátima, in the Chico de Paula neighborhood. The criminal shot the victim to steal money from the establishment. Images from the station’s monitoring system captured the moment when the employee was sweeping the floor and the criminal approached him from behind and fired the gun. As soon as he finished the robbery, he ran towards the other side of the avenue and fled.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
