01/09/2025 – Civil Police dismantled a stolen cell phone resale scheme, arresting a 23-year-old man in the act on Monday (01/09). The suspect used a luxury Audi Q3 to deliver devices sold through online platforms, often leaving them in mailboxes. Investigators found sealed packages with empty iPhone boxes, and the man’s personal phone was also flagged as stolen. He relied on accomplices who provided bank accounts to launder proceeds, splitting the profits. Police noted he had previously been arrested for impersonating a health professional in a fraud scheme.
02/09/2025 – A 17-year-old girl was apprehended in Santos on Tuesday (02/09) for her involvement in the robbery and murder of a 72-year-old man in Sorocaba in January 2024. The victim was stabbed to death after the suspects used his phone to make multiple bank transfers. The teenager’s mother, stepfather, and cousin had already been arrested in connection with the crime. Acting on a warrant from Sorocaba’s Juvenile Court, police located the girl hiding in the Morro do Pacheco community.

03/09/2025 – A 27-year-old woman was shot in the back by another woman after leaving a gym in Bom Retiro, on Wednesday night (03/09). Security camera footage shows the suspect threatening the victim before firing several shots; at least one struck the victim, who collapsed on the sidewalk. She was taken to the hospital, where she remains hospitalized. The shooting occurred on Rua Cecília Meirelles, after an argument linked to alleged threats on social media. The case is being investigated as attempted homicide by the Civil Police, no arrests have been made.
05/09/2025 – A 38-year-old tattoo artist was arrested in Santos for fraud after posing as a dentist while working at his studio. Police said he carried out dental procedures illegally in his studio and was also linked to bank scams, tricking victims by impersonating relatives to request transfers. He was detained on Friday (05/09) in the Rádio Clube neighborhood during a warrant execution at his home, and officers later seized dental equipment at his workplace. The suspect had already been reported to the Regional Dentistry Council in June for illegally practicing dentistry.
05/09/2025 – In the Aparecida neighborhood, a 16-year-old girl stabbed her 45-year-old mother inside their apartment on Friday night (05/09), in front of her 8-year-old sister, who called police. The mother, injured in the clavicle and face, was rescued by paramedics and taken to Santa Casa de Santos. According to testimony, the teenager—who has a history of psychiatric disorders, violence, and threats against her mother—entered the apartment with a knife after being locked out and attacked her mother.
08/09/2025 – On Monday afternoon (08/09), a 15-year-old girl was apprehended after jumping from a stolen car during a police chase in Santos. The vehicle had been taken earlier that day in São Vicente, and during pursuit through Rádio Clube, the teenager attempted to flee but was caught with three cell phones in her possession. Moments later, the car crashed into two parked vehicles, and the other suspects escaped on foot. The girl was treated for minor injuries and taken to the Central Police Station, where the case was registered as robbery and vehicle recovery.
09/09/2025 – On Tuesday (09/09), a 63-year-old man was arrested in Vila Belmiro, Santos, accused of ordering the attempted murder of his 27-year-old ex-wife, who was shot in the back on September 3 in Bom Retiro, Zona Noroeste, and left paraplegic. Security cameras recorded two women following and then shooting the victim multiple times, after which they fled in the suspect’s car. Police seized the vehicle, cash, and cell phones during the arrest. The suspect, who already faced multiple reports for threats, assault, and domestic violence, is considered the mastermind of the crime, while investigators continue to search for the women who carried out the attack.
12/09/2025 – On Friday (12/09), civil police in Santos, São Paulo, arrested two men, aged 20 and 26, for running a nationwide online fraud scheme. One of them, known as “Paim,” was identified as the gang’s leader. The suspects were caught in the act while exchanging messages with a potential victim and were charged with criminal organization and fraud. During the raid in the Embaré neighborhood, officers seized cell phones, a laptop, a card machine, bank cards, and notebooks with records. Investigators are working to track down other members of the group.
13/09/2025 – On Saturday (13/09), a 46-year-old man was robbed of his wedding ring by two young men on Rua da Liberdade, in the Aparecida neighborhood. Surveillance footage shows the victim throwing his phone into a property before being threatened, insulted, and attacked, with one assailant even trying to bite his finger. The suspects fled, and no arrests have been made.
14/09/2025 – On Sunday (14/09), a 44-year-old motorcyclist died in Santos, São Paulo, after his neck was cut by a kite string while riding on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Fátima. He was rescued and taken to the Central Emergency Care Unit but did not survive. The Military Police registered the case as involuntary manslaughter.
15/09/2025 – On Monday (15/09), former São Paulo police chief Ruy Ferraz Fontes, 68, was executed in Praia Grande while driving. Armed men ambushed and pursued his car for 500 meters before shooting him with rifles after he crashed into a bus. A woman and her nephew were also wounded. Fontes, who served over 40 years in the Civil Police and led investigations against the PCC, including Marcola’s arrest and the 2006 attacks, was known for transferring gang leaders to federal prisons. Police identified suspects through fingerprints on abandoned getaway cars.
15/09/2025 – On Monday (15/09), military police arrested a man for drug trafficking in Morro do Marapé, after he attempted to flee into a wooded area with an accomplice during a patrol on Avenida Doutor Nilo Peçanha. While the second suspect escaped, officers captured the man carrying a backpack loaded with cocaine, marijuana, crack, hashish, skank, dry-ice, cash, and trafficking equipment.
15/09/2025 – A 70-year-old man was arrested on Monday (15/09) in the Campo Grande neighborhood, accused of running romance scams via Tinder and other dating apps that defrauded victims of more than R$300,000. According to police, he gained victims’ trust with promises of relationships before extorting large sums. The Federal Court of São Paulo issued the preventive detention order, citing his repeated involvement in fraud, including a 2018 conviction for swindling and a criminal record spanning 47 years.
17/09/2025 – On Wednesday (17/09), a 27-year-old man was shot dead by police during an operation at his apartment in Ponta da Praia. According to authorities, he had threatened his stepfather with a knife, locked a child in a room, and resisted after officers used stun weapons. Police reports state he was killed during opposition to intervention, while video recorded after the incident shows broken doors, bullet holes, and blood in the bathroom where he was found. The case was registered as resistance followed by homicide.
23/09/2025 – On Tuesday (23/09), a 29-year-old man attempted to rob employees of a logistics company, in the Saboó neighborhood, by threatening them with a knife while climbing onto a train to intimidate security guards. He tried to flee across the wagons but was pursued, jumped off near Avenida Martins Fontes, and was finally subdued by the Military Police. Taken to a hospital before being transferred to custody. The case was recorded as attempted robbery with the use of a bladed weapon at the 5th Police District of Santos.
23/09/2025 – On Tuesday (23/09), during a break at the state school Professor Primo Ferreira in Vila Belmiro, a 16-year-old student threatened a 17-year-old classmate with a loaded pistol after a fight. The weapon, with its serial number filed off, fell during the struggle and was seized by a teacher. Military Police were called, seized the gun and ammunition, and took both teenagers to the Juvenile Police Station (DIJU), where they were later released to their guardians. The case was registered as illegal possession of a restricted firearm, threat, and bodily injury.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponta da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown, and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo, and others, since they are gang-controlled zones where shootouts occur frequently.
- Avoid passing near the VLT tunnel, in José Menino, as many drug users and homeless people stay there, especially next to the walls of the Clube dos Ingleses.
- The waterfront has many incidents of thefts and robberies (snatch and run), never display wealth, and avoid walking there during the night.
- During the Summer, risks increase, due to the bigger number of beachgoers.
- Residences in the neighborhoods of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário, and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves who look for bikes and items in the common areas.
- Make sure your building is well protected, with a 24/7 doorperson.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant, as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and nowadays they tend to be quick and focused on forcing the victims to transfer money using their cell phones.
- Attention to scams that may reach you through a WhatsApp message, e-mail, SMS, or a call.
