In the first month of 2026, a motorcycle was stolen or robbed every 41 minutes in the city of São Paulo. Data from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reveals that January alone saw 202 robberies and 903 thefts, with the Pedreira and Capão Redondo neighborhoods recording the highest incidence. Despite these high numbers, the SSP reported a 15.7% decrease in this kind of crime compared to the same period last year and highlighted the arrest of 98 individuals linked to vehicle theft rings in early 2026.

12/03/2026 – On Thursday (12), the São Paulo Secretariat of Public Security confirmed the removal of a Military Police Captain from street duties after he became a formal defendant for the statutory rape of his stepdaughter. The officer, accused of abusing the victim since she was six years old and later sending her intimate photos in 2025, has been reassigned to internal administrative tasks while the legal process continues.
13/03/2026 – On Friday (13), police arrested five men outside the Allianz Parque, in the Água Branca neighborhood, West São Paulo, during a Luan Santana concert for operating a credit card swap scam. The suspects, aged 23 to 33, were found with 95 stolen bank cards and three payment terminals, which they used to swap victims’ cards during purchases with street vendors. The group was charged with receiving stolen property, and authorities have requested their pretrial detention due to their extensive criminal records in theft and drug trafficking.
14/03/2026 – On Saturday morning (14), a Military Police operation at a pancadão (massive street funk party) in Jardim Macedônia, in the Capão Redondo neighborhood, West São Paulo, left seven people shot, two of whom died. The deceased victims were a 56-year-old bricklayer on his way to work and a 22-year-old man attending the party. The police claim they returned fire after being attacked by criminals, while families and witnesses have denounced the violence of the intervention. Authorities have seized a weapon and are now analyzing the officers’ body cameras to determine the exact origin of the fatal shots.
15/03/2026 – On Sunday (15), funk singer MC Urubuzinho was arrested in the Belenzinho neighborhood, Central São Paulo, for his involvement in a February carnival event in Santos where gunfire was recorded. The investigation was triggered by videos showing the singer performing alongside an armed man while shots were fired into the air; he also allegedly made verbal tributes to the leader of the TCP, a major Rio de Janeiro criminal faction. While his defense claims he was merely a hired performer with no criminal ties, he remains in custody in Santos facing charges of inciting crime and associating with criminal organizations.
17/03/2026 – Early Tuesday morning (17), four teenagers (ages 15 to 17) were detained on Rua da Consolação in central São Paulo. The group, traveling at high speed in a car belonging to one of their mothers, fired an airsoft gun at two men on the street. City guards intercepted the vehicle and noted that the underage driver showed signs of intoxication.
