The city of São Paulo recorded an increase of 21.9% in thefts and 5.5% in robberies in the first two months of this year compared to the same period in 2022. The data is from the Secretary of Public Security of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP). According to the survey, between January and February of last year, 21,946 robberies and 32,203 thefts were recorded. While in the first two months of 2023, the number grew, respectively, to 23,171 and 38,997. While in the state of São Paulo, the SSP recorded 38,626 thefts and 81,313 thefts in the first two months of last year across the state. While, in 2023, the number of registered police reports were 39,295 and 91,456, respectively. Which represents an increase of 12.4% in thefts and 1.7% in robberies.

Cell phone theft increased by more than 50% in the state of São Paulo, according to the Secretariat of Public Security. In January, there 8,089 occurrences. And in February, that number increased to 12,307, an increase of 52.14% in one month. Security cameras don’t seem to deter them but demonstrate how criminals act.
02/04/2023 – After a dispute with the Military Police, drug users set fire to garbage bags and wooden crates in the Cracolândia region, located in downtown São Paulo. According to the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo (SSP-SP), a Police Special Actions team (Baep) was carrying out a routine patrol in the area when it was harassed. Also, according to the SSP, no one was arrested and there were no injuries.
02/04/2023 – A young man was stabbed with a knife on the way out of a university party, on Rua Líbero Badaró, in Vale do Anhangabaú, downtown São Paulo. Upon leaving the event, the university student was robbed and stabbed by homeless people who were hanging around the fences surrounding the venue. He was hit in the chest area, one of the biceps and one forearm and is recovering in hospital.
03/04/2023 – A shooting ended with five people shot inside the Paraisópolis favela, South Zone. According to the Military Police, police officers were patrolling in the region of Avenida Hebe Camargo when they saw a robbery. They tried an approach, but the two criminals, on a motorcycle, made mention of shooting and were shot. Further ahead, another man saw the presence of police and started shooting, which provoked the reaction of the police.
03/04/2023 – The Military Police (PM) arrested three people suspected of stealing R$70,000 worth of medication from two pharmacies in Indianapolis, South Zone. According to information from the PM, the group robbed a drugstore on Avenida Portugal and then robbed a second one on Alameda dos Nhabiquaras. Police officers chased the robbers with the help of the Police helicopter. Inside the vehicle, which was stolen, more than R$4,000 in cash, cell phones and a pistol were found, in addition to medicines that together added up to R$70,000.
04/04/2023 – The Military Police (PM) managed to arrest criminals who robbed a mansion in the Pinheiros neighborhood, West Zone. In the residence were a newborn child and family employees. The father saw everything through the cell phone app and warned the police that managed to arrest the criminals when they were leaving the residence.
05/04/2023 – A woman was robbed inside her vehicle in the Morumbi neighborhood, South Zone. The criminal threatened the driver, entered the car through the window and stole her purse. The scene was recorded by another driver who was in the vehicle next door.
05/04/2023 – A civil police officer was robbed, and thrown into the Tietê River by two criminals who fled, taking the officers’ cell phone, wallet and gun. According to the Civil Police, the 51-year-old officer was driving his car along the central lane of the Tietê marginal road when he realized that one of the tires was flat at the height of the Piqueri bridge. When he stopped the vehicle, he was surprised by two men on a motorcycle. The criminals robbed the police officer and then threw the victim into the Tietê River. After the crime, teams from the Military Police and the Fire Department were triggered to rescue him.
05/04/2023 – A captain and a corporal from the Military Police shot dead a sergeant in a battalion in Jardim Santa Emília, South Zone. Initially, they were there to defuse a conflict between the victim, and a female police officer. The victim would have been dissatisfied with the captain’s approach and pointed a gun. The captain then reacted by firing. When asked, the Military Police did not say whether the captain and the corporal were arrested.
