The Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo (SSP-SP) recorded a 33.7% increase in the number of cases of femicide in the first six months of 2023 compared to the same period last year. According to the secretariat, in January and June 2022, 83 cases of femicide were registered, while in the first half of 2023, 111 occurrences of this type were reported. Another index of violence against women that also suffered an increase in the comparison in this period was the one of consummated rapes. While the first six months of 2022 had 1,266 cases registered, in 2023, 1,362 occurrences have already been notified – an increase of 7.5%.

18/08/2023 – A municipal bus was hit by a gunshot during a riot around Cracolândia, in downtown São Paulo. The shots were fired by a civil police officer who reacted to an attempted robbery on Avenida Rio Branco. The shots hit at least two people – a criminal, who ended up arrested, and a pedestrian.
20/08/2023 – A man on a motorcycle had his cell phone stolen by a criminal also on a motorcycle, on Marginal Tietê, in São Paulo.
21/08/2023 – A man, victim of a robbery, was arrested for illegally carrying a firearm in Pirituba, North Zone. A security circuit caught the robbery when several people were sitting in front of a wine cellar on Avenida Raimundo Pereira de Magalhães, when two armed criminals approached the boy. The robbery victim claimed to the police that he had a collector’s license to carry weapons, but this was a lie, and he was arrested.
21/08/2023 – Police located in Guaianases, East Zone, a property that functioned as a drug storage bunker that supplied Cracolândia, in downtown São Paulo capital. The operation ended with the seizure of marijuana, K9, cocaine and skank. Two people responsible for the site were arrested. A notebook with business accounting was also seized.
22/08/2023 – A confusion involving military police and street vendors took place around Rua 25 de Março, in downtown São Paulo. According to reports, the police took the goods from the workers, who fought back, and a confrontation ensued. One of the street vendors was taken to a police base and officers used pepper spray to disperse those who were there. Videos recorded in the area show at least two men were assaulted in the confusion.
22/08/2023 – A man was assaulted by São Paulo Metro security guards at Tucuruvi station, North Zone. A video recorded by witnesses shows the moment of the attacks. According to witnesses, the man who was attacked is homeless and collects recycling materials. The images show the moment when the man is approached by three security guards at the station. Then the man is pushed and falls. He gets up and is attacked with a truncheon by one of the security guards.
22/08/2023 – Police seized 38 guns in an investigation into internet raffle sales. They suspect that the weapons were the prizes of these raffles, according to the State Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic). The entire stock of weapons at a shooting school in the East Zone was seized. The owner is being investigated for gambling and would be raffling off weapons, which is considered an illegal activity. The operation fulfilled search and seizure warrants in four locations. Among the war material are rifles, shotguns, carbines, pistols and even a 44-caliber revolver.
22/08/2023 – An elderly man attacked an app delivery boy in the Sacomã neighborhood, South Zone. The delivery boy said he had gone to a house on Avenida Nossa Senhora das Mercês to deliver a meal. That’s when the elderly man heard him ask for a code to release the woman’s request and thought it was a scam. The two began to argue and, as a result, the man’s son appeared and held Sanches, who began to be assaulted. Later, a group of 50 motorcyclists went to the address and began to harass the elderly man. The elderly man then took a 32-caliber revolver and pointed it towards the group.
23/08/2023 – Two men were arrested after making a mass robbery in Moema, South Zone. At least 10 pedestrians were attacked. According to the police, the criminals robbed the victims in just 11 minutes. After recording the occurrences, police officers were able to locate the criminals after tracking the cell phone of one of the victims. They were found on Avenida Roberto Marinho and there was a police chase. Stolen cell phones and cards were recovered.
23/08/2023 – A transit agent from the Engineering and Traffic Company (CET) was attacked by a homeless person and had his neck cut on Avenida Tiradentes, in downtown São Paulo. The man injured the agent with a piece of glass and vandalized the vehicle. Military police were called to the incident and managed to contain the man.
24/08/2023 – A 40-year-old was rescued by the police after being held hostage by criminals for almost 24 hours in Jardim Panorama, West Zone. According to the victim, she was having dinner with friends in the Pinheiros region on Wednesday (23/08), when she was surprised by two armed men as she returned to her car. One of the criminals took the victim off the wheel and put her in the back seat. Criminals wanted money, bank password, app password and cell phone password. The damage was estimated at more than R$ 40,000. A Military Police team went to the scene after an anonymous tip. The victim was rescued, but three men managed to escape.
24/08/2023 – Civil Police arrested four criminals who broke into houses in Itaim Bibi and Pinheiros, both in the West Zone. Jewels, money, and valuables would have been stolen from the houses. Police did not say how many properties were invaded. In the vehicle, where the criminals were, had false license plates and was stolen from one of the broken-in houses, police claim to have found two large tools which were used to break into the houses and a firearm simulacrum. In addition to dollars and pesos.
