Theft records in part of the central region of São Paulo soared this year and reached a record, even surpassing the numbers of 2019, pre-Covid-19 pandemic. Data from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) indicate that the 77th DP (Santa Cecília), which covers a good part of the region known as cracolândia, accumulated, from January to October, its highest numbers of robberies and thefts since 2002, when it began the historical series. The police station, which is located on Alameda Glete and is close to the concentration of users on Rua Helvétia, showed an increase of 16% in the number of robberies and 27% in the number of thefts, also comparing the balance of the ten months of this year with that of 2019. The rise occurs in the same year that drug users spread across the central region of the city due to the intensification of joint actions by the city hall and the state. Located in Liberdade, the 1st DP (Sé) accounted for 3,836 cases of robberies between January and October of this year, 36% more compared to the same period in 2019, the pre-Covid pandemic year. In the 3rd DP (Campos Elíseos), the growth in the total number of robberies this year, until October, was 41% compared to the same period in 2019.

04/11/2022 – A police officer was shot and killed when he reacted to an attempt to robbery at his home, in the Jabaquara neighborhood, South Zone. He was arriving home when criminals broke into the garage and announced the robbery. The officer reacted, drew his gun and shot one of the robbers. The PM claims that there were three criminals involved in the crime, and two managed to escape.
04/12/2022 – The bike gang robbed a condominium in Santo Amaro, South Zone. They gain access to garages by bending the gates and steal bicycles that are parked in the garage. The doorman even tried to prevent the bikes from being taken, but the gang members were faster.
05/12/2022 – Heavily armed criminals blew up ATMs in two supermarkets in Grajaú, South Zone. The criminals closed the streets that give access to the place by setting fire to cars and buses. The police were called and managed to arrest a criminal and seize a car, guns and gasoline used in the crime.
06/12/2022 – A lawyer had the armored glass windows of her car stolen by criminals in the Pinheiros neighborhood, West Zone. Criminals break the car near the glass window and that way they can take it off in one piece to resell.
06/12/2022 – A delivery man was robbed and had his bicycle stolen by three criminals in downtown São Paulo. The police managed to recover the bicycle at a time when the criminals were trying to exchange it for drugs in Cracolândia.
07/12/2022 – São Paulo police arrested two men dismantling a stolen car in the East Zone of the city. The criminals were identified after police used a drone to view the dismantling.
07/12/2022 – The civil police carried out an operation against a gang that scammed investors. Eight arrest warrants and 20 search and seizure warrants were served. The criminals promised profits above the market and caused an estimated loss of R$ 1 billion.
07/12/2022 – A clothing store owner was shot and killed in Capão Redondo, South Zone. The 53-year-old victim was seen on security cameras being murdered by the owner of a local bar. The suspect fled and is on the run.
08/11/2022 – A gang invaded the home of a prosecutor in the Alto Pinheiros neighborhood, West Zone, and stole bottles of liquor, jewelry, tools, and a set of cutleries. But a watchman became suspicious when he saw the gang members running down the street with the valuables and warned the police.
