A survey carried out by Rede Record based on data from the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo (SSP) shows that, in the state of São Paulo, this year, between January and May, almost R$ 1.2 million in cash were robbed or stolen. Also, according to the SSP, an average of R$8,000 per day is robbed or stolen.

Our Analysis:
Although digital transactions are becoming more popular every day, cash robbery still registers impressive numbers mainly for two reasons: the difficulty of tracking banknotes and the ease found by criminals to rob pedestrians and stores.
30/06/2023 – A teacher and two former students were robbed in the Pirituba region, North Zone. The three were talking in front of the teacher’s house, when they were approached by two criminals on a motorcycle and posing as delivery guys. Armed, one of the criminals even pushed one of the victims.
01/07/2023 – A 21-year-old girl was found dead and without clothes inside the apartment where she lived with a friend in Santo Amaro, South Zone. Her body contained evidence of suffocation and injuries to her wrists and neck. The victim’s colleague was not at home and, when she returned, she had to call the building manager, as she had no key. Upon entering the apartment, she found the victim dead.
01/07/2023 – A man was killed with at least 20 shots in front of his house, in the Cidade Ademar neighborhood, South Zone. Footage from street monitoring cameras captured the crime. The victim was an app driver and was returning home after work. Witnesses claim that the approach was carried out by four criminals, who surrendered the victim at his door. According to the Military Police, so far there is no information about the motivation of the crime.
01/07/2023 – Jewels valued at R$600,000 was recovered by the Civil Police during Operation Auction in São Paulo. According to the State Department of Criminal Investigations (DEIC), a day laborer stole 29 pieces from the victim’s residence, located in Higienópolis, an upscale neighborhood of the city. The jewels were found at an auction house.
01/07/2023 – A man was kidnapped by a gang in Butantã, West Zone. He was a victim of the Tinder scam, where the victim is kidnapped after making a date through a dating app. In captivity, he even made a Pix of R$ 12,000 for the criminals. Police managed to release the victim and arrest three criminals after they crashed their car.
02/07/2023 – A man shot his girlfriend and a friend of hers after an argument out of jealousy during a party in Campo Limpo, South Zone. The argument started after the woman found an acquaintance and started talking to him. The criminal pulled out a gun he was carrying and fired at the victims. He was arrested by the police after being prevented from fleeing by other party guests.
02/07/2023 – Three men were arrested after stealing more than a hundred drones from a store in Brás, in downtown São Paulo. The cargo was valued at R$30,000. According to the Military Police, the crime was committed by members of a gang specialized in robberies. They broke into the door of the establishment and took the cargo. They were arrested after police became suspicious of them and stopped the car they were driving.
02/07/2023 – A criminal shot at a resident of a building in Vila Olímpia, West Zone, while she was filming a robbery in the street. In the images, you can see the victim standing on the sidewalk and the criminal sitting on a black and gold motorcycle, with the stolen cell phone in his hands. The resident, who was recording, screams “asshole”. The criminal saw that she was recording, pointed the gun and fired. The criminal fled.
03/07/2023 – A 28-year-old musician was found dead under a car in the Bela Vista neighborhood, downtown São Paulo. His body had skull injuries, brain mass exposure and signs of being run over. The police are investigating the case. The victim had gone to a bar and was waiting for an app vehicle to return home.
03/07/2023 – Five men were arrested for drug trafficking, after an operation by the Civil Police, on Rua Araguaia, in the Canindé neighborhood, downtown São Paulo. Drug distribution took place in a popular building complex. Cocaine, crack stones, marijuana, portions of k9 and money were seized.
03/07/2023 – A civil police officer was the victim of a robbery in the Socorro neighborhood, South Zone. The investigator was assaulted and shot in the head by the three criminals, who took the victim’s car and gun. The stolen car was found 3 km from the robbery place. Criminals fled.
05/07/2023 – TV host and former soccer player José Ferreira Neto, also known as Craque Neto, was a victim of the stoned gang, in Morumbi, West Zone. The TV presenter was in a car stopped at a traffic light when a criminal broke the passenger window and took his cell phone. The criminals ran away.
06/07/2023 – A pedestrian was robbed on Jandira Avenue in Moema, South Zone. The criminal was on a motorcycle and was carrying a delivery bag. When the victim approached, he showed the gun and announced the robbery. The criminal took the victim’s cell phone and watch and fled.
