SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 4TH BULLETIN OF JUNE

In May, the São Paulo police seized 39.7 tons of drugs in the state, the equivalent of more than a ton per day during the period, according to data released by the Secretariat of Public Security. The value is 158.2% more than in the same month last year, when 15.4 tons of narcotics were seized. From January to May, the total number of drugs seized reached 93.6 tons, 14.6% more than last year. Arrests and seizures (when the offender is a minor) also went up. In May, 16,687 criminals were arrested and apprehended, 10.4% more than in the same month in 2022. From January to May, there were 79,846 against 72,746 in 2022, an increase of 9.8%. Other data also show increased police productivity in the state. There were 909 seizures of firearms in May this year against 805 in 2022. In the accumulated result for the year there were 4,658 seizures, against 4,225 last year, an increase of 10.2%.
