The number of children and adolescents living on the streets has grown 12 times in the city of São Paulo in the last 10 years. According to the federal government’s Unified Registry (CadÚnico), in 2024, 3,961 children under 18 years of age live on the streets, which represents 46% of the total number of children and adolescents living on the streets in Brazil. Violence and impairment of cognitive development are some of the consequences of growing up in this environment, especially during early childhood.

Deaths by the Military Police of SP increased 46% in 2024. From January to November 17 of this year, 673 people were killed by military police, compared to 460 in 2023. In 2022, with the expansion of body cameras, SP had the lowest number of deaths committed by police officers on duty.
