14/10/2022 – A couple was robbed by an armed man in Vila Mariana, South Zone. Surveillance cameras of a property caught the victims walking hand in hand on Rua Doutor Tomás Carvalhal, around 15:17. The criminal was on a parked motorcycle, when the couple passed, he pointed the gun and announced the robbery.
14/10/2022 – Thirteen criminals were arrested, including nine teenagers, after breaking into a motorcycle dealership on Washington Luís Avenue, in the Santo Amaro region, South Zone. According to the Military Police, officers were patrolling the region when they were approached by a person who reported that he had seen a group of about 20 young people forcing their way into a store on the avenue. Officers headed towards the store and, along the way, found part of the group on the run. The criminals took several belongings from the store, such as jackets, helmets, bags and gloves, as well as new motorcycles.

14/10/2022 – A man was kidnapped after setting up a meeting through a dating app in the Butantã region, West Zone. The victim was located and one of those involved in the crime was arrested on the East Zone on Saturday (15/10). According to the Anti-Kidnapping Division delegate, the 38-year-old victim arrived at the meeting point and was taken by the criminals in his own car. After the kidnapping, the victim’s bank noticed bank transactions in high amounts, so the account was blocked. The criminals then contacted the family and demanded a ransom. According to the PM, about R$ 40 thousand were diverted from the victim’s account. The kidnapped man was located on the Marginal Pinheiros, through a joint action by the Civil and Military Police. The others involved in the crime have not been located.
Our recommendations:
A scam that is multiplying is the “Love Scam” or sentimental scam, as it has appeared in some courts. The expression encompasses different types of fraud, but they all consist of involving the victim sentimentally in order to extract economic advantages from him. In it, the criminal creates fake profiles in dating apps and approaches potential victims with an engaging chat. After gaining the victim’s trust, the scammer promises supposed financial advantages and ends up inducing them to make investments, financial transfers, in addition to stealing data, that is, he tries to apply some type of scam. Or arrange a meeting to kidnap and extract money from the victim. In order not to fall into this type of scam, it is important to be aware:
- The Google Platform has an application called Google Lens. The tool allows you to search for the person’s profile picture, so you can find profiles with the same picture
- Be wary of those people who swear love in the first contacts insisting to obtain personal information
- Be suspicious if the person asks to borrow money or shares some donation action
- Do not accept an immediate meeting, prefer to spend more time talking before the face-to-face meeting to learn more about each other
- Never send compromising photos. Photos are also personal data and can be exposed
- If you think the time is right, schedule the meeting in a public place and make a video call beforehand to confirm that the person is real
15/10/2022 – A prison officer was shot during an attempted robbery at a gas station on Rua Joaquim Oliveira Freitas, in Jardim Mangalot, West Zone. Security camera images show that two criminals arrived on a motorcycle. The one on the back quickly descends and announces the robbery. The prison officer turns himself in and initially drops a belonging. Soon after, the suspects begin to search the agent. At that moment, officer’s gun drops, but one of the robbers is faster and picks up the weapon from the ground. The victim and the criminals then began a physical confrontation and, after breaking free but unarmed, the police officer runs towards the duo behind a truck where he is shot.
16/10/2022 – A retired military police officer was shot after a robbery on Marginal Tietê, near Ponte da Casa Verde, in Bom Retiro, Central Region. According to the Military Police, he was with his wife on a motorcycle when they were approached by two criminals in another vehicle. The criminals announced the robbery and surrendered the victims, reviewing the officer and his wife. Upon identifying the motorcycle driver as a police officer, the suspects shot the three times. Then they ran away.
16/10/2022 –A young man was shot and killed after an argument in a bar in Vila Medeiros, in the North Zone. The argument happened after the young man called a customer “Jão”. The man didn’t like it and shot the victim.
16/10/2022 – A delivery man had his car stolen in Jardim Sapopemba, East Zone. Security cameras show when the criminals go towards the car, ask the victim to get out of the vehicle and enter the trunk of the car. He begs to be released, the criminals leave but take the car.
17/10/2022 – The campaign team and candidate Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) for the government of São Paulo were surprised by a shooting between Military Police and criminal during an agenda in the community of Paraisópolis, South Zone.
17/10/2022 – A body was found in broad daylight in Brasilândia, North Zone. The man would have been executed by criminals with six shots, and the victim’s hands were tied behind him, indicating that he was taken to the scene by executors. The police continue to investigate the case and still do not know the motive for the murder.
18/10/2022 – Three criminals invaded a beauty clinic in the South Zone. They were armed and robbed employees and customers. On the run, they did a mass robbery through the streets until they were arrested by the Military Police.
18/10/2022 – A group was arrested after kidnapping four people and keeping them in two captivity in the region of São Miguel Paulista, East Zone. According to the Military Police (PM), the first two victims were approached during work, in the morning. A biker passed beside the men’s vehicle and warned that of the doors was open. The victims then stopped the car to check, at which point they were surrendered and kidnapped. An anonymous tip led the police to the scene. There, officers were called by two people who reported having been kidnapped victims and released shortly before.
19/10/2022 – A man died after being shot with at least seven shots on Rua Lagoa das Bananeiras, in Vila Carmosina, East Zone. According to witnesses, the victim was walking along the road when he was approached by two criminals. The pair, who were carrying a delivery backpack, shot at least seven times at the man, who remained lying on the sidewalk.
19/10/2022 – A bank branch was the target of a robbery in Parque Edu Chaves, North Zone. According to the police, five armed criminals entered the branch, surrendered the manager and forced her to make 30 PIX transfers, which together reach R$4 million. When they left the scene, they took the CCTV footage.
21/10/2022 – A couple was kidnapped and held hostage in their own luxury armored car on Estrada do Sabão, in the Brasilândia region, North Zone. The kidnapping lasted three hours. According to the victims, the criminal was making PIX transfers with the victims’ cell phones. The couple was approached in the car by at least three criminals when they were passing around 6:40 on Avenida das Cerejeiras, Vila Maria. Two of the thieves fled after the vehicle hit a bus and another car while being pursued by police cars.
Our recommendations:
Kidnappings have skyrocketed since the creation of Pix, as well as opening up a whole new range of possibilities for gangs to apply scams. Regarding the care related to kidnappings, people should anticipate and establish a value limit for Pix and other forms of transfer with their bank managers and within the bank app. In addition, those who own a car cannot take too long to leave the house driving, nor stay for a long time with the vehicle on the street and the headlights on or talking on the cell phone, which places drivers in a vulnerable condition. Criminals like easy targets, so they prefer those victims who will not be able to react or attempt to escape from the place. For victims, the first action after the crime must be to notify the police in all cases. Subsequently, the victim must look for the bank whose account had the amounts subtracted.
