SÃO PAULO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 4TH BULLETIN OF OCTOBER

The State of São Paulo recorded an increase in intentional homicides, rapes, robberies and thefts in the last month of September compared to the same period in 2021, according to data released by the Secretary of Public Security (SSP) this Tuesday, 25. The biggest increase occurred in cases of intentional homicide, with a total of 253 in the month against 226 last year, an increase of 11.95%. When taking into account the number of victims (each case may have more than one victim) the records went from 243 to 270, a variation of 11.11%. The occurrences of theft throughout September this year totaled 46,385 cases, an increase of 8.55% compared to the same period last year. The number is equivalent to 1,546 thefts per day last month in the cities of São Paulo. When looking specifically at vehicle theft, however, this increase is greater. There were 8,500 in September, 22.1% more than in the same month of the previous year, when there were 6,900 occurrences. Robbery cases went from 19,366 to 20,527, up 6%. Rape went from 1,076 to 1,153 – 7.16% more compared to September 2021. In view of the increase observed since the first half of the year, the government of São Paulo launched Operation Sufoco with the aim of intensifying policing on the streets, but the records kept going up.
