05/04/2023 – A pet shop located in Parque Residencial Mestre Álvaro, in Serra, was targeted by a criminal in the early afternoon of Wednesday (5). Video surveillance cameras caught the moment of action. Before entering the establishment, the thief also robbed a barbershop and threatened businessmen with a gun.
07/04/2023 – A 16-year-old teenager was shot dead on Thursday night (7), in a square in the André Carloni neighborhood, in Serra. The crime, according to family members, happened the day after the victim’s birthday.
08/04/2023 – A 25-year-old man was shot dead on Saturday morning (08) on his way to work in the Civit II neighborhood, in Serra. Amilson de Jesus Santos worked as a logistics assistant at a company in the region. The owner of the company was surprised that he did not come to work and found that he had been found dead near the company.
10/04/2023 – A surfer was robbed and his car was taken in the Manguinhos region of Serra. Hours later, military police found the vehicle abandoned in a neighboring neighborhood. The suspect was near the scene and ended up arrested.
13/04/2023 – A 17-year-old teenager was shot in front of a bar, late Wednesday night (12), in the Planalto Serrano neighborhood, in Serra. He was next to relatives, including his 2-year-old nephew, when the criminals shot at him.
16/04/2023 – A barber, identified as João Vitor de Costa Souza, aged 19, was killed on Avenida Muriaé, in the Nova Carapina 2 neighborhood, in Serra, early on Sunday (16). The car he was in with three other passengers was targeted by two gunmen.
19/04/2023 – A merchant, identified as Lailton Pereira, died on Tuesday night (18), ten days after being shot in his own bar, located in Jacaraípe, Serra. The moment before the crime was recorded by security cameras at the scene.
21/04/2023 – A man was kidnapped and held hostage by criminals on the morning of Friday (21) on the BR-101 highway and ended up being rescued by agents of the Federal Highway Police of Espírito Santo (PRF-ES). According to the corporation, the rescue of the victim, whose identity has not been revealed, took place after a chase on BR-101 that ended in the Alterosas neighborhood, in Serra.
27/04/2023 – A 20-year-old young man was murdered late Thursday afternoon (27), in the Laranjeiras neighborhood, in Serra. The crime took place near a school in the region. According to the Military Police, when the team arrived at the scene, the boy had already no vital signs.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Robberies and thefts against pedestrians are among the city’s major risks, the Parque Residencial das Laranjeiras, Jardim Limoeiro, Carapina, Região das Laranjeiras and Novo Horizonte concentrate the highest number of incidents.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as he or she might not be alone or turn violent.
- Violent drug trafficking gangs are present in the city. People must never access areas controlled by them, such as Bairro de Fátima, Helio Ferraz, Jardim Carapina, all Novas Carapinas, Boa Vista, and São Diogo.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout: Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move unless you are sure that the gunfire has ended.
- Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas or beaches after nightfall.
- Be always cautious, even in the areas considered safe.
