27/04/2024 – A fugitive was arrested with drugs in Lambicada, East of Angra. He was caught during a routine patrol in the slum. With him, the officers seized an important quantity of drugs, a hand grenade, and a walkie-talkie. The bandit has an open warrant for armed robbery. He was immediately placed in custody.

28/04/2024 – A man stabbed three people in a bar in Ariró, North of Angra. The man, famous in the area for his aggressiveness, got mad after one person in the group said, “Angra is a misery”. After a discussion, the man took some cocaine in front of everybody in the bar, went home, and returned with a machete and a knife. He stabbed one in the chest and was wounded in the hands before running away.
01/05/2024 – Agents from the 33rd BPM arrested, in Nova Angra, a fugitive from Justice. According to the Military Police, the agents were on routine patrol when they spotted a member of a gang, who had been convicted of drug trafficking. He was approached and offered no resistance. When they checked the system, they found that he was a fugitive.
02/05/2024 – Bandit was injured in a confrontation with the police. In the early hours of this Thursday (05/02), agents from the Tactical Action Group (GAT) went to Lambicada, where they would check complaints about the free trade of narcotics in that community. As soon as they arrived in the neighborhood, the police were greeted by gunfire and retaliated. Immediately, the agents found Luan Bitencourt Xavier da Costa, known as Cocó, aged 32, injured. Next to him, a rifle, and a radio transmitter. According to the PM, Cocó is one of the strong men of the criminal faction Third Comando Puro (TCP) and would be one of the trusted men of the drug dealer “Bicheiro”, who operates in the Parque Mambucaba region.
11/05/2024 – Through the Disque Denunciation, military police officers located a storage area for flammable products, on Saturday (05/11), at Praia do Cassino, in Vila do Abraão, on Ilha Grande. On the beach, according to the complaint, in addition to piled-up tires, and winch machinery for boats, it was found, fixed to the ground, and around it, several containers containing oil. No one was found.
13/05/2024 – A young man, identified only as Zinho, was found dead on Monday (13/05), inside a house, on Rua Dr Léo Corrêa da Silva, in the centre of Angra. There are suspicions that the crime has to do with activities related to drug trafficking. The police are investigating the case and are considering the possibility that the crime was committed due to a debt owed by Zinho to drug traffickers in Morro da Caixa d’Água.
14/05/2024 – On Monday, May 14, in Caixa D’Água, the central area of Angra, agents of the Reserved Intelligence carried out a successful operation that resulted in the seizure of drugs. The action took place after the team was assigned to locate a drug dealer suspected of homicide. The police officers reacted to the aggression and, during the criminals’ escape, a backpack containing a variety of narcotics was abandoned.
17/05/2024 – Agents of the Reserved Intelligence Service (P-2) seized drugs on Friday (17/05), during an incursion to combat drug trafficking, in Predinhos do Parque Mambucaba. According to the Military Police, the police received complaints about the sale of drugs in the area. The operation seized marijuana, cocaine, and a radio transmitter. A criminal was arrested.
18/05/2024 – Military police officers from the 33rd BPM carried out an anti-trafficking operation on Saturday (18/05) in Sapinhatuba 1. According to the PM, agents from the Tactical Action Group (GAT) went to the neighborhood to identify and arrest criminals. Right at the beginning of the raid, the police were met with gunfire and retaliated. One criminal died and another was arrested.
19/05/2024 – An action by the 33rd BPM ended in the arrest of two criminals and the seizure of a drug shipment, during an operation to combat drug trafficking, carried out on Sunday (19/05), in Água Santa. According to the PM, the agents were on routine patrol when their attention was focused on a suspicious group. As the police approached, some of them managed to flee the scene, but two were caught along with the illicit material.
20/05/2024 – A chase initiated by military police, on Monday (20/05), to a stolen vehicle in the Banqueta neighborhood, East of Angra, ended with a man arrested, drugs and weapons seized. According to the Military Police, during a patrol in the neighborhood, a vehicle was identified as stolen. After a pursuit, the car was surrounded by police. The driver was arrested. During a search, officers seized a simulacrum of a firearm and drugs.
20/05/2024 – On Monday (20/05), Military Police carried out an operation in Morro da Fortaleza, in the center of Angra dos Reis, to deactivate a monitoring center for drug trafficking in the slum. Ten cameras, which were observing the daily lives of the residents and the arrival of the Military Police in the locality, were removed from the poles, dismantling the action of the traffickers. In addition to the 10 cameras, police also seized a DVR, a television, and telecommunications cables. No one was arrested.
24/05/2024 – Civil police officers from the Specialized Police Station for Assistance to Women (DEAM) of Angra dos Reis, together with police officers from the 166th Police Station (DP), served, on Friday (24), a preventive arrest warrant for the crime of domestic violence against a woman, in Praia Longa, on Ilha Grande. The suspect was wanted for failing to comply with emergency protective measures against his ex-partner.
26/05/2024 – On Sunday (26), police officers from the Tactical Action Group (GAT) of the 33rd BPM carried out an operation in Morro da Glória I, which resulted in the seizure of cocaine pins, crack rocks, marijuana tablets, and a radio transmitter.
27/05/2024 – Agents of the 33rd BPM’s Reserved Intelligence Service (P-2) arrested an element and seized drugs on Monday (27/05), in Bracuí. According to the PM, the police made a routine raid in the community and spotted a criminal in a suspicious situation. He was approached and found with him pins of cocaine, marijuana, crack rocks, bottles of “loló”, a radio transmitter, and a cell phone.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking are also registered almost every month.
- In the case you find yourself in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek a solid cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- If your are in your car, the engine block is a good barrier behind which you could seek protection.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba, Japuíba, Frade and Morro da Glória I and II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of property crimes, thefts and robberies.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
