26/09/2025 – On Friday morning (26/09), a man was shot dead inside a gym in the Rocinha community, South Zone. The shooter fled immediately, and the motive remains unknown. Military Police from the local UPP confirmed the victim’s death, and the Capital Homicide Division has opened an investigation to identify those responsible.
27/09/2025 – On Saturday (27/09), a shootout interrupted a mass in honor of Saints Cosme and Damião at a parish in Andaraí, North Rio, causing panic among worshippers who sought cover inside the church. The violence broke out about 100 meters from the Hospital do Andaraí, hours after the Health Minister’s visit. Earlier, a 29-year-old man linked to drug trafficking was killed in a clash between rival groups in Morro da Cruz. Later, UPP Borel officers exchanged fire with criminals near the hospital, leaving two bystanders, aged 32 and 35, wounded. Authorities reinforced policing and contained street blockades, while the Homicide Division investigates.

29/09/2025 – On Monday (29/09), a major joint operation by Civil and Military Police with the Public Prosecutor’s Office targeted the expansion of the Red Command in Cidade de Deus and Gardênia Azul, in Rio’s West Zone. Authorities carried out 12 arrest warrants and 18 search warrants, resulting in 22 arrests, including a key figure in Pará, and the seizure of four rifles, seven pistols, two grenades, drugs, and 15 radios. Ten tons of barricades were dismantled, nine vehicles recovered, while 21 bus lines were disrupted and 17 schools and health units closed temporarily. Three buses were hijacked and used as barricades.
29/09/2025 – On Monday (29/09), Pará Civil Police, alongside Rio security forces, arrested in Belém a member of the Red Command who operated in drug trafficking in Gardênia Azul, West Rio. She carried firearms, flaunted rifles on social media, and coordinated trafficking links between Pará and Rio, with a prior 2022 drug conviction and past activity as an international “mule.” The arrest was part of a major operation against CV’s expansion in Jacarepaguá.
29/09/2025 – On Monday (29/09), the National Council of Justice (CNJ) carried out an administrative inspection in the office of Judge Cairo Ítalo, of the 5th Criminal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro, and suspended him from his duties. The decision is part of an investigation into possible irregularities in rulings that allegedly benefited leaders of the Red Command and the Povo de Israel criminal groups. According to the inquiry, the judge granted injunctions during a judicial duty shift on 10 August that favored three high-risk detainees.
30/09/2025 – On Tuesday (30/09), Civil Police in Rio carried out two operations against gangs stealing oil and lubricants from Transpetro pipelines, causing R$ 37.5 million in losses. One group, active for four years in Duque de Caxias and nearby cities, was linked to 152 thefts and R$ 36 million in damages, reselling adulterated products with fake labels. Another scheme in Queimados used shell companies, false documents, and trucks to siphon oil, causing R$ 1.5 million in losses.

According to the Military Police, officers from the 18th BPM responded to the scene, located the victims, and secured the area for forensic analysis. The case is under investigation by the Capital Homicide Division (DHC), which is working to clarify the circumstances and identify those responsible.
30/09/2025 – A children’s party entertainer was arrested on Tuesday evening (30/09), in Cascadura, North Zone, under a preventive detention warrant. The facts involve the suspect, who was disguised as Spider-Man, and is suspected of having committed abuse against a minor during an event. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the man was also consuming and storing a large quantity of child pornography on his electronic devices.
30/09/2025 – On Tuesday (30/09), former military police officer Flávio Lúcio Carvalho de Faria, 51, was shot dead in Bangu, West Zone, when arriving home. He had been expelled from the force and was considered a leader of the Sepetiba militia. Convicted in 2019 to 16 years for murdering a merchant who denounced militia activities and to six years for leading a criminal organization, Flávio’s group was known for extortion, violence, and control of local commerce. The case is under investigation by the Homicide Division.
30/09/2025 – On Tuesday (30/09), two men were arrested after attacking military police officers in Madureira, North Zone. The assailants, on motorcycles, fired at patrol units from the 9th BPM, triggering a shootout. One suspect was wounded and taken to hospital. Police seized two motorcycles, a .38 revolver, and a signal jammer.
01/10/2025 – On Wednesday (01/10), the Consumer Protection Police (Decon) carried out an operation against those involved in the death of 28-year-old Marilha Menezes Antunes, who died on 8 September from internal bleeding caused by organ perforation during a cosmetic procedure at the Amacor Saúde clinic in Rio’s West Zone. Eight search warrants targeted a nurse, recruiters, and staff, while the clinic had already been shut down for expired medicines. The doctor responsible, arrested on 15 September, faces charges of homicide and falsification.
01/10/2025 – A man was found shot dead on Wednesday morning (01/10) in the parking lot of Carmela Dutra Maternity Hospital in Madureira, North Rio. Following the gunfire, the hospital temporarily closed its doors until the 3rd Military Police Battalion arrived. The Capital Homicide Division is investigating whether the victim was shot by criminals before entering through the wooded area behind the hospital.
01/10/2025 – Former Goiás state deputy Iram de Almeida Saraiva Júnior was arrested on Wednesday (01/10) in Barra da Tijuca, West Rio, suspected of sexually abusing a 2-year-old child. The investigation, led by the Child and Adolescent Victim Police Unit (Dcav), began in March after a daycare reported concerns and gathered evidence through interviews with the child. Saraiva Júnior, also a doctor in Niterói, was arrested and had his phone seized. He is also under investigation for harassment of his ex-wife.
01/10/2025 – A man was arrested on Wednesday (01/10) in Jardim América, North Rio, after attempting to steal a car using a toy gun. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the victim realized the weapon was fake, and the suspect was restrained by locals before officers arrived. During his attempted escape, he threw the toy gun into a drainage ditch, but police later recovered it.
01/10/2025 – On Wednesday night (01/10), a baker was arrested in Bangu, West Zone of Rio, for robbing his former workplace in Vila Valqueire last May. Security cameras recorded him and an accomplice — still at large — stealing about R$8,000 in cash along with employees’ phones and belongings.
02/10/2025 – On Thursday (02/10), Rio de Janeiro’s Civil Police and CORE units carried out a major phase of Operation Asfixia in the Maré complex, where teams enforcing 18 arrest warrants were met with intense gunfire. Officers pursued targets linked to the Red Command. Eleven suspects were arrested, including a military police sergeant and a Petrópolis City Hall aide accused of acting as informants for the faction. Authorities also ordered the seizure of R$700,000 in criminal assets. While investigations revealed that Petrópolis has served as a logistics hub for drugs and weapons.
