05/01/2023 – A wanted criminal was arrested during a police operation by the 2nd Battalion of Special Police Actions (Baep) in Morro São Bento. During an approach, he confessed to belonging to a criminal faction, being responsible for drug trafficking in the city. According to the Military Police (PM), the team was on Rua Assunção da Nossa Senhora when they saw a group fleeing with backpacks and guns in their hands. The officers followed the men. With him, a stolen car, a backpack and a bag of drugs, a cell phone, two radio charger bases and two notebooks of trafficking notes were seized.
05/01/2023 – Two men were arrested for selling shoes and other stolen goods in downtown Santos. Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) officers and the Military Police (PM) saw the duo in a suspicious attitude by the monitoring cameras of the Operational Control Center (CCO) of the city. With a large bag, the men were selling shoes on a street corner. During the approach, the police verified that the products sold were of illicit origin, as they had been stolen days before from a store.
09/01/2023 – A 31-year-old man was arrested after stealing a woman’s cell phone on Avenida Senador Feijó, in the Encruzilhada neighborhood. According to the Civil Police, officers were on the street when they saw the victim screaming for help and running after the man. The victim informed officers that the criminals had pulled the phone from her hands and fled.
11/01/2023 – A Military Police (PM) team was shot at in Vila dos Criadores during a patrol that sought to curb robberies and thefts in the Alemoa neighborhood. Officers were surprised by gunshots while they were on Rua Aurélio Batista Félix and were able to identify two perpetrators of the shots – one with a pistol and the other with a long weapon. During the search for the duo, the police found a submachine gun with a magazine and two intact cartridges on the way to escape. Still in the region, the team located a cell phone. However, the men were not found.
15/11/2023 – Two young criminals robbed a man seated in a pub during the afternoon. They ripped the victim’s necklace and stole a credit card that was over the table.
19/01/2023 – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Federal Police conducted an operation in Santos’ Port and seized 69 kg of cocaine that would be shipped to Europe.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
