BRAZIL RANKS 2ND IN THE NUMBER OF MURDERED ENVIRONMENTALISTS

Recent data shows an increase in violence against environmental activists in Brazil in 2025. The ranking by the British NGO Global Witness, released on Wednesday, September 16, places Brazil in second position for the number of environmentalists murdered in 2025, with 26 deaths, more than double the count in 2024. Half of the crimes occurred in Rondônia and Pará, where the main reason for the deaths in the country was land disputes, a historical focus of conflict between Indigenous peoples and large landowners.
