On Tuesday (05/07), National Union of Employees of the Central Bank President Fábio Faiad informed that the category decided, in assembly, to end the strike that began in April. Central Bank servants demanded salary readjustments and career restructuring, which was not met by the Federal Government. The deadline for granting readjustments, by law, ended on Monday (04/07).
Impacts of the Strike
During the strike, the disclosure of data about the economy and associated reports were postponed several times. The “Focus”, a weekly report that contains financial market projections for the Brazilian economy, was one of the publications jeopardized. According to the Central Bank, with the end of the strike, the disclosure of reports will be updated “as soon as possible”.
Unfulfilled Promise
At the end of last year, the Federal Government promised an exclusive readjustment to federal security forces. Other federal servants did not like to be left without readjustment, and started to protest, including the Central Bank employees. Authorities attempted a common solution to please everyone, but this displeased both sides, which protested. In the end, the resources that were going to be used to give readjustments were sent to cover extra government expenses.
